LukeAE71 Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 Ok I sold a 5 speed box for a KE70 to a fellow member on here who is upgrading from a 4 speed. He says that when his mechanic went to change the boxes over the bolt holes on the 5 speed didn't match up at all places on the motor and the starter motor didn't line up. Most bolt holes line up and it the shaft went into the motor so it has to be a KE70 5 speed. It has the shifter in the right position also. I am thinking that perhaps there is a difference in the sandwich plate that you use betweeen the 4 and 5 speed?? Has anyone else encountered this issue and what was the solution? Quote
Evan G Posted April 28, 2011 Report Posted April 28, 2011 whats he putting it in? i heard from the FAQ that on some 3k/2k that some bolts don't line up? Quote
LukeAE71 Posted April 28, 2011 Author Report Posted April 28, 2011 4k in a ke70 I can't see how it doesn't work to be honest but I wasn't there to see it with my own eyes Quote
towe001 Posted April 29, 2011 Report Posted April 29, 2011 The only other way i can see it not fitting is if the motor has been up-righted. Which would also mean the g'box x-member would need to be fixed or something so that it can be angled over as well for the box to fit to the motor. Sandwich plates - about the only real difference is the one that fits between the auto and motor has an inspection hole. At least that's what i've noticed with the ones i have here. I think i'd be asking to see it, cause i don't believe it. Quote
SLW42 Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 Should bolt straight up with no issues at all..... Only thing I think you might have to use the 5 speed crossmember Quote
LukeAE71 Posted May 4, 2011 Author Report Posted May 4, 2011 I compared both gearboxes side by side and the bellhousing bolt pattern was different so I swapped it. Upon thinking about this further I suspect that I have an early K series box front half, combined with a KE70 shifter extension housing. Why someone would do that is beyond me  Quote
BlueKsev Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 The earlier ones have slightly different ratios? Not really worth swapping though Quote
