here lyes the question?

i have been told that i need to run the socks plus the trumpets (being a tuned length) on the webers, then i was told to piss them off and put the K & N filters (the ones that arnt cheap) on with the trumpets inside.

my thought is to make an alloy air box up to bolt on the webers. thats the easy bit, my next thought is where is the inlet going to be? my first thought was put it straight out the front of the box and near a fresh air opening next to the radiator , but then the distance that the air has to travel is different to each carby.

second thought is to put the inlet in the middle on the underside of the box and turn it 90 deg then pipe it to the fresh air opening next to the radiator.

thats all the thoughts that i think that are practical for its application so far.

the reason that I'm going with the box is due to the amount of WET events that we have down here I'm trying to keep the diagnostic problem simple and so there is only one pod filter that i have to change not two K & N filters.

even if you make the inlet at the front, it will be fine. there are plenty of factory setups like this. as long as you make the inlet pipe big enough, you won't be starving the engine of air anywhere

sorry yes it will be on a K series motor (that i havent decided which one to use 4K or 5K) with extractors.

the 4K has already hade work done on it. cam, blueprint, etc

the 5K is standard no mods what so ever. i have a 3K big port head for it if i choose to use it

ah yes the model.... its a Ke 3x 2 door the one with the B pillar

If it's a Ke2x, you can't run trumpets OR socks because there simply isn't room. There's a bit more space in a KE3x, and more again in a KE70. KE70 you should be able to run small trumpets.

FWIW, you don't NEED trumpets, however they are a good thing. I don't have them on my 25, for the above reason.

on Dwarf, I literally can't have anythig larger than a bolt head, otherwise a can't slide the filters in.

Ke30 you should have some room, but I don't think there's a whole lot.

due to the type of roads and conditions that we endure down here it was told to me by a well respected man (who knows what he's talking about) told me to go away from the uni filter soks and use either the K&N style of filter the oval one that is about 4" off the face of the webers to be able to get the trumpets in. then i saw on an other car the air box and i thought that i could make that and use it. then i thought that the inlet could be a problem. so i asked this question.

I'm not haranging you, I'm just advising you. On something like a Datsun, that's a really good idea. However the problem with Corolla's is the aforesaid mentioned lack of space. When I fitted my Webers, there was exactly 38mm between the carb and the tower. I don't know the measurement on a 30, but I think you maybe struggling to fit 4 inch (100mm) K&N's on, due to the slant and the tower. Remember that although you can have the trumpets, you still have to be able to get the filters on and off for cleaning. I sincerely hope you can fit K&N's, as they're an excellent filter, however if you want trumpets, you may have to go socks, due to fitment problems. Nor am I slagging the gentleman who gave you the advice, as it's sound advise. I'm just suggesting that he may not know the space issues involved.

FWIW I have 40mm sandwich filters on the 3K, with no trumpets, and socks and small trumpets on the 2TG.

i was trying to stay away from the mulipul filters for that reason. (having little or no room to change/ clean the filters) and go towards an alloy sheet box. i was just wondering where i should put the inlet pipe on the box.
