Mason. Posted June 2, 2011 Author Report Posted June 2, 2011 (edited) thanks everyone for the help. I went off an old photo of what direction a little gromet on the strut top was facing. and changed boths strut tops to match the photos. took it for a drive and its going straight. thanks champs Edited June 2, 2011 by Mason. ke70dave Posted June 2, 2011 Report Posted June 2, 2011 that is interesting. if you are keen, you could do some measurements to find out what changed. figure out where the strut is located in relation to the 3 bolts, sounds like its not in the centre. then try and maximize your castor, because everyone likes a bit more castor! you want the strut top to be located as far back as it can, so you get more angle on your strut. Mason. Posted June 2, 2011 Author Report Posted June 2, 2011 Did you mess with your tie rods? no didnt touch them. its driving as straight as it was before now. still needs a wheel aligment though. has needed once since i brought it :) Quote
Crowie55 Posted June 2, 2011 Report Posted June 2, 2011 I'm so confused that it fixed the alignment that way  Have taken struts out many times lowered and replaced them and haven't noticed the problem you described. I'm certain they have a pcd. Wouldn't the centre rubber locator thing not mount properly in the strut tower if the bolts had to go back exactly the same as before?? Quote
Mason. Posted June 2, 2011 Author Report Posted June 2, 2011 (edited) trust me I'm confused too, its booked in for a wheel aligment on monday next week. just to be sure Not excatly sure why turning the strut top made a difference, i may have been imagining it going straighter it always turned left lightly, but now i have these springs in it seems way more dramatic. like if i hit a bump... BAM I'm flying left. hopefully the wheel allignment sorts it out Edited June 2, 2011 by Mason. Quote
Mason. Posted June 2, 2011 Author Report Posted June 2, 2011 negative man, facing up the right way Quote
Oh-KE Posted June 2, 2011 Report Posted June 2, 2011 Yeah crowie i thought they were equal all the way round but this proves they are probably not. Turns out when I did mine I did put them back the same way which is probably why I never had a problem. Would be interested to know was changed with them in a different way.. could be a good thing! If done to both sides that is.. Quote

Long story short when you hit a bump the car will tend to want to steer itself wherever it chooses. Bump steer reducers can be purchased to control this. They are a metal spacer you place between the lower control arm and bottom of the strut(where you bolted up the 2 big 19mm bolts) They don't affect the ride height as they are below the stub axle, they push the lower control arm down to the stock or close to stock level so it stops the bump steer you are feeling. Hope this helps dude :y: Cheers, Crowie Quote
Mason. Posted June 2, 2011 Author Report Posted June 2, 2011 Bump steer dude! so it only happened when you went over a bump? nah man it also happens if i accelerate to quick the car will shoot left, and say if I'm turning left, the car wont correct back to straight, it was just stay on a left angle Quote

Wheel alignment. Personally number one seems like the most probable cause to me :laff: :laff: Quote
