Next Problem....

G'day fellas,

 

I managed to find the source of my engines odd tick. The rear top manifold bolt was loose. Noticed it when my brother started it and a puff of exhaust came out. So thanks to all the fellas that replied and helped.

 

Anyone on to the next problem. When I start it, until it gets some oil pressure it has a big end knock, goes away in 2-3 seconds but sounds bad. Is this a pretty sure sign of bearings on the way out? Or could it be there is not enough oil or something simple like that?

when was the last time you changed the oil? and what oil did you put in?

 

and what oil filter do you have in. some oil filters have the anti drain back valvy thing, (no idea which ones, but others might know).

 

my 4k used to do exactly as you describe, i put it down too just being old. just don't rev it when you start it.

The dipstick says full but when I put the oil in it only took like 2-3 litres.

Wrong or broken oil filter. Exactly what mine was like when I bought it, there was no anti-backflow valve in it and the oil drained out each night.

 

When I started it the oil took 10seconds to fill the filter and the bearings rattled for that time. The bearings were OK when I stripped them out later, but did have some scour marks.

 

So go grab a Toyota filter & use nothing else.

Fair enough. It has a ryco oil filter from super cheap... Go see Toyota dealer or something?

Oh and I changed the oil and filter like 1 month ago, have hardly driven the car for that month. Used ahh 20w 50 I believe as I was a little worried that the engine would be worn throughout so I went for something a little thicker.
