t18drifts Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 ok eventualy ill be getting this car over the pits again for the conversion to be legal. the big black cylinder thing i believe is called a carbon canister thingo ma bobby will i need to keep it with the 3tgte for the pits oh and battery relocation (BOOT) does anyone know if that is allowed and the rules ect cheers matt Quote
altezzaclub Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 What are you doing about vac advance on the dizzy?? & what carb will you use?? The carbon canister uses ported vac to suck all the petrol fumes out when you run, and I imagine it acts as the vent 'in' for the fuel tank as you use fuel. During the day it catches fumes from the tank and carb warming up when the motor is off. So if I were you I'd keep it if there is a source of ported vac before the turbo. Quote
t18drifts Posted October 8, 2011 Author Report Posted October 8, 2011 could you pretty plz elaberate PORTED VAC BEFORE TURBO so you still need this for a fuel injected motor ????????????? Quote
kickn5k Posted October 8, 2011 Report Posted October 8, 2011 (edited) You'll need the canister for emissions. They are easy to hook up. as altezzaclub says they take the fumes out of the tank and help with tank breathing. You'll need to connect it to a vacuum port on the manifold and then connect one of the other lines back to f/tank and one of them vents to atmosphere.(they are usually well marked) Stu. t18drifts Posted October 9, 2011 Author Report Posted October 9, 2011 could you make a diagram I'm confuzzled :blinks: Quote
altezzaclub Posted October 9, 2011 Report Posted October 9, 2011 ..if I'm keen tomorrow I will. Somewhere along the line you will have a venturi in the throttle body I assume, by the throttle plate. That will give you vacuum, either 'ported vac' so it is shut off by the throttle plate at idle, or 'manifold vac' so it just plugs into the intake between the throttle plate and the turbo. How about you draw a diagram of your setup for us.... Then we can tell you where you need to plug it in. Quote
t18drifts Posted October 9, 2011 Author Report Posted October 9, 2011 ok i can upload a pic don't know if it will be much help but its pretty much the same minus they ghetto cooler hope that could help cheers. matt Quote
altezzaclub Posted October 9, 2011 Report Posted October 9, 2011 OK its not like I thought, its all under pressure. Now, the lines marked in green are manifold vac, so strong vac at idle and diminishing until they are under pressure at boost. That wll be your brake booster and somehow they are using it as the PCV I am sure. The small lines marked with yellow are, I expect, ported vac, so they get closed off when the throttle plate closes. So no vac at idle, vac just off idle when they share the manifold vac, and vac diminishes until they go positive under boost. It just depends exactly where they are drilled into the throttle body, for if they are downstream of the throttle plate but still in the venturi they will have vac depending on airflow, zero at idle and more and more as airflow increases until they go on boost. I don't know what they do for the charcoal canister, you only want the line to suck on it or you will blow the fuel tank up. You'll have to look at a car that had a 3T-GTE in it, I assume they used a one-way flow valve in it.. They must have an interesting line on the dizzy there too, as it will give you vac advance low down then retard under boost. Shame I'm not in Perth, I'd love to take a look. Yo will only sort it when you have it running and put a vac gauge on it. Quote
