Lower Ratio Diff

I'm wanting a lower ratio diff for my KE50 caus I live in the country and basically 1st gear is pointless and 5th is still sitting around the 4k mark at 110, so I was hoping there might be a lower ratio diff alternative - presumably out of a KE55 Auto?

Can anyone tell me the diff ratio options that were available for KE55?

Don't touch the auto diff if you want longer legs on the g'box.

 

From memory on the Jap diff the choices you'll have is 4.11:1 , 4.22:1 , 4.44:1

KE55/30 Borg warner is 4.11:1

KE70 Borg warner is 3.89:1 , 4.11:1 , 4.30:1

 

Basically the higher the diff ratio numbers the lower the road and higher the revs.

 

Don't quote me but i think the ke70 BW diff might fit into the ke55 BW diff housing.

So really what ur saying is the KE70 BW 3.89:1 diff is the tallest diff that came out in the K series?

Yeah from what i'm aware of it is. But you might be a bit hard pressed to find it.

Go up a rim diameter and keep tall profile tyres. That has the same effect..

haha! I had a Datsun 1200 wagon, bought it off the original owner, and dropped in an A15 & a 5speed.

 

It needed to haul a higher diff but it was easier to go from 12" to 13" rims back in the 80's. Dropped it by 10%, so the same as a diff change of 4.3 to 3.9

No there is a 3.7 ke diff, very rare though, sold a center for 500 today
