AE82Newby Posted March 3, 2012 Report Posted March 3, 2012 Hi I got an AE82 for my daughter 2 years ago. 4AC, a tough and good handling little car. 300,000 km, sat in a paddok 2 years and out front here for one; then pretty easy through rego and to get going reliably. I want to check the gearbox oil level. I found what looks like a filler on top of the gearbox tunnel to the left of the battery. Smells like hyppoid 90. I can't see any oil! Plug has a stepped probe that may be a stunted dipstick? How can I tell if it has enough oil? Can someone tell me that from a manual? As I don't want to overfill and stuff the seals. ls correct spec oil hypoid 80-90? Thanks. Cheers, Brett Quote
BlueKsev Posted March 3, 2012 Report Posted March 3, 2012 For the gearbox's i've done, the filler is not at the top of the gearbox, its in the right spot so you just fill it until oil starts coming out the hole! But otherwise, google knows alll abut ae82's Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted March 4, 2012 Report Posted March 4, 2012 Correct., the filler plug on a C-series gearbox is on the front (ie radiator-side) of the gearbox about half way up. The level should be just to the bottom of that hole (if the car is sitting level on the ground). Quote
