You tell us what you think you can spend on an engine conversion and then we can all have a laugh.. Either you put out say $2000 for carbs/cam/exhaust & a motor freshen up.... or you put out $10,000 for a motor transplant. It depends on how much you can do yourself. Can you strip & rebuild a motor with new pistons/bearings/head job and modify inlet systems with a bit of engineering?? Can you spend weeks researching which steering systems can be fitted to clear your Evo or whatever motor, what brakes and suspension you will need to get it engineered (that's on top of the $10,000!) and can you wire up an aftermarket ECU so it works?? B.L.Z.BUB Posted March 6, 2012 Report Share Posted March 6, 2012 You could do a 4age conversion and spend between 2k (if you do it all yourself and get mad deals) or keep adding dollars for everything you can't do, say budget $4-5K Just for the engine conversion. Remember you have a ke70 and its not a drop in swap like an AE71 OR Spend say 3-5K on a car that has already had all the hard work done, and then add what you want to it. I assume its a 5speed, if not start there. Get it out to 1500cc, cam, carbs, head job, exhaust, light flywheel, all balanced.... Then put some money into the suspension & handling and whatever to get it the way you like it. Once you've got a car you're happy with then save for the 4AGE. It's not like you're going to enter the car in shows and claim that it's "built, not bought" If you really want to do it yourself, then go for it but just be prepared to spend a bit more money. Yeah you will know exactly what's been done to the car but it may be easier to bend out some kinks in someone elses work than to start from scratch with little or no mechanical experience and even less money. 4AG = Win. It's unlikely that any custom parts will have to be fabricated, they can all be sourced from an AE71, some from an 86 if need be. Go with a 16v 4AG, spend whatever money you have left over on suspension, lock the diff and slide away. It may not be different but it works.
