MrDavid333 Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 Hey guys, I"m looking to buy my first car and I'm wondering whether or not I should go for a KE55. I love those 70's car shapes and I've found a few corollas on Car-sales, but I'm just wondering what I should be looking for in a good one.Yes I know these cars are more than 30 years old so they're not going to be showroom quality, but how much hassle am I to expect from a vintage Corolla in general? I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post Links here so if you would like to see the ones I'm looking at, just let me know. Thanks guys, Dave Quote
nerfbat Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 hi mate. can't go wrong with any rolla TBH. i love the fact you can rip a motor out and replace it with your bare hands, no lifter, in a few hrs, lol and to rebuild a nice 'k' motor costs less than say, taking the head off a later model car. they are the 'new to car scene' and the 'classic car lover' 's type of car all rolled into one..! if you are looking for one, you can not beat Andy's for sale here: http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/58552-1980-corolla-xx-coupe-only-135000-km/ its like a new car..! and welcome to the forum mate Quote

rollalicious Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 My first and only is a really nice ke30 (had P's for a year). I love it, it's fun to drive and gets heaps of attention from all the right people. However it only cost me $250 and it got rwc the same day, probably owes me $1500 by now and I'm just getting to engine upgrade stuff. Insurance is cheap which is a bonus :) BUT I borrow mums car whenever I know there is an hour long drive coming up and it's heaven! POWAH, cruise control, air conditioning, sound deadening, towing ability and storage/ passenger space that the corolla could only drool over. that list pretty much covers any car built in the last 20 years.. THE ONLY way you will find a nice one at a reasonable price is to search locally or snap one up 30 mins after it hits car sales, I would cry if mine owed me anything like $3-5,000! after owning it for a year I'm soo ready to get something newer looking at Subaru wagons in manual as we speak which make soo much more sense if you have the mone. Hope that helps Quote
altezzaclub Posted March 15, 2012 Report Posted March 15, 2012 Get out of Seednee and find a rust-free Rolla in the country. The mechanical parts are easy to replace, but a rusty body full of bog is a death-trap in these cars when someone hits you in their SUV. Don't pay more than $2000, preferably $1000 or under, they come up now and then in Gumtree or locally. DON'T buy anything modified, and you will probably find the autos are in better (less-thrashed) condition than the manuals. If you want stories of excitment and adventure looking for Corollas, PM Flopsyfrog and ask him about the Bogans in the banjo-playing backwoods of NSW! :laff: Quote
