hey guys got my 5k running in the ke25 has anyone else had overheating issues after fitting a 5k? was thinking maybe a thermo fan might do the job?

...or maybe a thermostat, maybe a water pump, maybe a radiator flush, maybe a cleanout even....

 

When was the 5K last running and how was it then?

 

..and how was the radiator with your last engine?

 

What fan is on it at the moment?

well i put a new thermostat in, used the water pump from my 3k (which had no issues), radiator already being used, and the 3k fan I'm pretty sure

 

I bought the motor second hand, runs beautifully but gets hot pretty quick. wondering also maybe a headgasket

Any creamy colour oil on your dipstick yet?

Start the car with radiator cap off if you get bubbles streaming (constant flow) out radiator you have problem. Give it a rev see if coolant shoots out. These will only happen if the headgasket is bad. If it doesn't happen still don't rule out a gasket!

Did you user the 3k or the 5k temp sensor?

is there a difference between the 3k - 4k - 5k sensors? I was thinking about this today as i have a similar problem to abbotts after swapping a ke70 4k into a ke16 (used the later thermostat/waterpump) will try swapping the old one back in (if it fits the later housing)

Yeah there is, that's why I asked abbot. Could just be his gauge telling fibs. I'm using a 3k one in my 55 normal op temp us not far off overheating on the gauge.

I know I'm digging up an old post but i found a little more out about this, might be common knowledge but it was new to me so thought i should share.

 

for fuel level and water temp sensors;

- Ke1X dash supplies unregulated 12v (whatever your alternator reg is supplying)

- Ke3x (early) uses 7v regulated

- ke5x (and late 3x?) uses 10v regulated

 

Which is why the gauges will read funny if you mix the sensors up. Sensor needs to match the dash, not the engine.

also why the gauges on a 1x tend to be a bit inconsistent as the voltage out of the reg will move a bit with rpm, lights etc.

 

Unsure about Ke20 or 70?
