CR250Roost
Hey guys, I have made a rookie mistake (I think) by putting gearbox oil in a T50 before installing it on the car. The oil ended up spewing out of the driveshaft end and made a nice puddle on the floor. Is this supposed to happen? I assume the driveshaft yoke might stop this from happening when installed on the car or maybe a seal is gone. This is my first engine conversion so any advice is appreciated! Thanks
dashills
Hey mate, The yolk will stop oil as long as its not scored and the right one . Mistakes happen so we must learn from them we only human . Maybe next time pop a oil bucket under it so if you don't have a yolk , you might be able to catch it
CR250Roost
Thanks Dashills, I thought that might be the case. I didn't want to go through the trouble of putting it in the car if it was a seal. I managed to salvage most of the oil fortunately
Redwarf
Yep. Been there, done that. If you're going to do this more than once, get an old tail shaft and get the yoke off it. You can use this as a bung to stop the fluid coming out. Saves a lot of mess.
ke70dave
Also a rag shoved into the end of the gearbox, with gaffa tape wrapped around it DOES NOT equal a tailshaft shoved in the end. Did this once, thought we were sweet, lifted out engine wtih gearbox attached, oil_everywhere.
