Mark90 Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) Hey gents. Placing this thread here for us Corona fiends to use to share info and ask questions rather than destroying each others build threads with garbage. Mods please move if this isn't in the right spot ;) First question I've been wanting answered - who has the spare wheel mounted in the spare wheel well inside the left hand guard? And if so, what is the tyre profile? At some stage mine has been changed to a wider profile and she won't sit in there anymore lol Feel free to ask questions/share ideas in this thread guys. Feral4K Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) Nice to see it done! Ill go have a look for you now Mark, mines still there and intact :P Edit: Mines 165 R13, and seems to fit in there :) Also ive been meaning to ask, my car is stamped RT81 on the firewall, however, it has the circle gauges, and rt80 front and back. Also it hasnt got the high back seats like RT81's. Its pretty much an RT80 with RT81 stamped on the firewall? I wanted to know what you guys think of it being stamped 81 but having all the 80 features Edited January 27, 2014 by Feral4K Quote
glenpos Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 (edited) great idea mark!! one of my spare cars is an rt81 that looks like an rt80, only difference is the motor, they come out with a 12r instead of 2r, and the first rt81 and rt80 came out with a l43 gearbox i think its called, built in bellhousing peice of poo haha, then the rest have w40,appart from that they are pretty much identical, i dunno why they kept calling the later rt81's that instead of going rt82 or something, i also have a rt81 that has the late bonnet and guards and dash, but it has a different shape grill to marks, and hasn't got high back seats or disc brakes, so i'd say its the next one from the rt80 look alike, and i have to late rt81's with the high back seats, and the nice looking grill, and discs haha EDIT : oh and in NZ they had rt83 coronas, they look like the 2 later rt81 coronas but had 18r engines I'm pretty sure, although it could have been an 8r which looks the same, but they had then put a 18r in its place Edited January 27, 2014 by glenpos Quote

Mark90 Posted January 28, 2014 Author Report Posted January 28, 2014 Ha! Never knew there was an RT80 looking RT81 lol. Mine had the W40 box :) loving the 5 speed now though! Quote
SimonM Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Great idea for this thread! I'm finally giving my 'rona some love. Got the engine running again and it drives better than it ever did. Still needs a proper tune. Also just did all the brakes with new wheel cylinders and flexible hoses. Mark, my spare is in there still with what looks like factory original goodyear tyre on it AR78SR13 165 R13. So old and dry and rock solid! Not sure if I'd trust it! :P I know this isn't a marketspace thread, but I have a few bits and pieces I don't need if anyone wants them: Mark's spare RT81 grill complete with cracks and missing clips RT81 rear quarter pillar vent things front indicator/parker lenses, original ones from my RT80, fairly faded - I got some NOS ones for mine and not really corona-specific, but I have a set of 4 jellybeans to suit. 13 x 5.5. Two brand new tyres and two with decent tread (50%+?) Photos on my build thread. Would look good on a slammed 'rona Quote
Mark90 Posted January 28, 2014 Author Report Posted January 28, 2014 Thanks heaps for the tyre size guys! The one on it is brand new but I might go out and get another one just so it fits. So annoying having it sitting in my boot loose lol. Quote
Mark90 Posted January 30, 2014 Author Report Posted January 30, 2014 Soooo mine is the same profile, I just thought it was supposed to stand straight up in the dip on the left hand side of the boot (my metal bracket that holds it up has been removed, but I still have it). Never realised the wheel sits on an angle with the metal bracket. I get how the bracket clips onto the centre of the wheel, but there is a hole in the bracket I'm assuming a threaded rod goes through with a plate on the back? Anyone got a pic of the complete setup, should be a nice project getting one made up to mount the wheel right. Sorry for the long winded post, just wanna see the whole setup so I know what to look for :) Thanks! Quote
Feral4K Posted January 31, 2014 Report Posted January 31, 2014 ill post pikkies of my setup tomorrow... Quote
SimonM Posted February 9, 2014 Report Posted February 9, 2014 Glen, oh keeper of the thousand spare coronas! Would you happen to have a badge for the back end of an RT80? Fits in the cross-shaped mark on the right hand side, can't remember what it was.. an ami badge? Quote
Mark90 Posted February 9, 2014 Author Report Posted February 9, 2014 Just to the right of the number plate? I have an "SE" badge there. Quote
SimonM Posted February 9, 2014 Report Posted February 9, 2014 yeah, can't remember what mine was.. don't think it was SE. You can see the shape that it's supposed to be though Quote
Mark90 Posted February 9, 2014 Author Report Posted February 9, 2014 Looks the same shape as my SE badge to me and you should just have AMI badges in your front guards :) Quote
SimonM Posted February 9, 2014 Report Posted February 9, 2014 hmm.. Definitely the same shape.. Perhaps it was an SE badge then.. Need glen to confirm, I'm sure he's seen the most coronas out of all of us :P Quote
