Dadams Ke26

Hi!

Thought it's time I should throw up a little project tag for my 74 ke26 over here in New Zealand.

I have always had some kind of old school project on the go/in the garage for the better part of the last 20 years, the better ones have been a very tidy bone stock 72 lancer, super tidy stock ke30 (wish I had kept both of) datsun 1200 sedan, 2 datsun 1200 2 door wagons, datsun 240c wagon and a AE86 (300bhp 4agte). Also had a some minis and a beater mk1 escort.

Anyhow, long story short, I brought a house a few years back with a tiny garage that would not fit the datsun 240c, so I made the pain staking decision to part with the low, slow weekend cruiser and get back into the compact wagon scene again. (we are all about our wagons in our small group, mostly 60's and 70's u.s and Aussie cruisers though)

Had a bit of a search on the local trading sights and found this wee gem. Plan was always to get either another Datsun 1200 wagon (very rare these days) or a ke26, so I pretty much jumped at the chance of this bad boy..

Picked it up looking like this

Basic stats are;

50mm blocks in the rear, shortened munro inserts (yuck) with some sort of generic 50mm lowering springs.

Slightly warm 4k, small port job, double valve springs and unknown cam (slightly lumpy idle) arp bolts, webber 28/32, acl pistons, rings, bearings and a lightened flywheel. All of this neck snapping power is forced through a k50 and into a standard rear end.

Body is pretty clean, shows a few little dents and does have a few rust repairs and little bits of rust stating to show but all up is very honest and tidy.

Interior however (aside from carpet which is worn) is amazing! Totally stock other that a small low key rev counter. Am yet to see (in person) a nicer interior of this era!

So,

That was about 6 months ago, since then I haven't done much other that enjoy it..

Blacked out front grill and inserts on the guard garnish

Also decided that I'm not all that into the cruiser look on small jap cars (12's and white walls) so dusted off a set of 14x6.5 ssr star formulas I had set aside off my ae86 for this exact occasion! Had to to the normal F around with change of stud pattern so in went some ke30 front hubs and welded and re-drilled the rear.

Added a fresh coat of red to the ssr's and a set of 165/50/14's

And boom, all together!

Fast forward a few months, and with Wagnats! just around the corner (long roofing event, have a look here http://oldschool.co....703-wagnats-15/) I decided I better do something about the unacceptable ride height.. However with zero dollars to spare and a set of old stock springs on hand I thought I'd relive my youth with a set of Makita one way adjustable's!

Being that it was for a 5 day hard parking event I wasn't to worried about having cut springs and removed leafs... Well that was until I tried to drive around the block, so it was a short lived mod of less than a hour, It did however look pretty sweet for that hour though!!

So thats about it for now...

In the process of collecting bits for a 4age conversion, so far have a 16v smallport (needs a birthday) and silver top i.t.b's, 4a to ke mounts and thats about it. Plan is 4age with open itb's, coilovers up front, sw20 calipers over s13 discs, datsun h165 diff (also have) converted to disc and some sort of leaf set up that allows for max low but still works and handles well..

Going to be abit of a long time project as baby is due today (wife is just hitting the beginning of labour as I write this!) so money and time is going to be abit tight!

Also, any info/links on the ke/4a conversion would be greatly appreciated as I haven't had much luck with google..

Thats all for today, Thanks for looking!!
