So it goes like this. You want to do an engine transplant. You'll need a tails haft fabricated. You'll need a diff housing and shafts fabricated. So theoretically any diff will do because your going to fabricate it. So what's the drawback of buying a $100 diff of a Ford or Holden and fabricating it to suit.

Mike's right, I can't see why not- the best diff is the lightest and the cheapest in the best condition.

 

Isn't the Skyline the most common replacement? The Hilux takes more grunt, but is heavier, so it depends on how much power you're after. If you have to shorten them it will up the price of some of them, and you'll have to get the driveshaft modified to suit the UJ coupling. Brakes and handbrake... it all gets quite complex really.

u can use anything u like. Just try and use something that suits your needs and is the most cost effective. getting a falcon diff under a ke as opposed to the correct model hilux is going to differ by quite a large sum of money

No unfortunately you can't just get any diff with the appropriate ratio and use it. For a number of reasons.

Think about size, weight, stud pattern, brakes, handbrake and lsd options as well as the ratio. That is assuming

you want something that works well. I would suggest to have a look at some diff conversions that people have already

done sucessfully, it runs through the process and cost for their application. Generally the more power, the bigger the diff.
