It gives the pads a bit more to grip onto and also helps get rid of the heat in the rotors when heavily worked, similar to cross drilling. I've got a lightweight KE10 with KE25 front end, Mazda RX7 SII front struts & brakes and RX7 SII disc rear end which will end up being the all out race car.
