evil1 Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 (edited) hi ive been having a lil bit of trouble with my 4AC dropping coolant, originally i though it was from the thermostat, but ive changed it twice in one day. upon closer inspection its leaking from something higher than that, as you can see from my pics, these are the spots i assume they are leaking from, yes leaking from 2 spots. what is this called? and is it a pain in the arse to change. ps. the pics are from my 4age motor just using it as an example, but they look identical Thanks Edited September 4, 2010 by evil1 Quote
Trev Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 1st one is the x-over pipe which is sealed with o-rings and is fairly straight forward to fix. 2nd is the bypass pipe which will also have a o-ring and is quite easy to do. I can do both of these items for you if you are in Bris. Quote
evil1 Posted September 4, 2010 Author Report Posted September 4, 2010 damn I'm in perth. keen to visit? hahaha hmm soo how do i get to it? Quote
Trev Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 With the 1st one you undo the 2 bolts holding on the top housing, remove it and slide the x-over pipe out, the second one you will have to undo the heater hose on the end of it and then undo the bolt holding the bypass pipe to the block and undo the 2 nuts/bolts from the rear of the thermostat housing and take the pipe out. evil1 Posted September 4, 2010 Author Report Posted September 4, 2010 obviously i need gaskets for em yeah? what would i be asking for in the shops? Quote
7shades Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Thermostat housing and water pump gaskets should be on the shelf in most places, but you may need to make your own paper gaskets for the smaller fittings. Take the old O-rings in with you and match them up to some new ones. Use a shitload of permatex/goo on that bypass pipe :lolcry: Quote
Trev Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 Will need the top hose outlet gasket, the o-rings you can get at a bearing shop. Quote
evil1 Posted September 4, 2010 Author Report Posted September 4, 2010 so my next question is, what caused this? corrosion? Quote
Sam_Q Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 yeah the O rings get hard and can also crack. I say buy a small roll of gasket paper from super cheap auto then you can use it for all osrts of things like this Quote
evil1 Posted September 4, 2010 Author Report Posted September 4, 2010 is it worth me changing my water pump as well? is 4age and 4ac the same water pump? Quote
Sam_Q Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 no I don't see the need, save your money till the sucker leaks Quote
Trev Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 (edited) is it worth me changing my water pump as well? is 4age and 4ac the same water pump? It is rwd so do as Sam said and change it when it is stuffed. The pumps are different where the timing belt provision is, 4age needs 4age, 4ac needs 4ac. EDIT: god damn keyboard.
