  1. meh no worries, Ive been lurking for ages & seen constructive criticism used alot so i take it all as it comes, rather than picking at differing opinions. Its all education at the end of the day. Chur
  2. Meh.... To each their own I guess. I didnt do it necessarily just for the weight loss or what ever, I did it because I can, & like I said, every little detail is gong to be done on my car. To me, removing this crap & replacing it with more efficient, modern (& yes, expensive) materials, is just another part of rebuilding my car. There will be more things I will do to it that may seem trivial or pedantic, but these are all taking me to the (perceived) end product of the tidiest KE70 around. But Meh... i look at the bag of shit I pulled out, & the nice new stuff that I can get to replace it, & thats enough reason for me to pull it out. Chur for the advice tho. Appreciated.
  3. Three days, 2 fingernails & a pair of stained hands later I have all of the crap removed, using only a fan heater & a scraper. 10 KGS of the shit, all gone. Bagful of the horrid crap. I left it on the firewall, as its thicker there, harder to get at & blocks alot of the heat/ noise. Ive done some research on sound deadening products & it seems there is quite an aftermarket choice out there. Ill probably use a decent mat type deadener (ie Dynamat) inside on floors & roof lining, (maybe doors & boot) then layer on top of that s/d underlay & then plush new carpet. Under the car Ill look into undersealing. :D
  4. What would be good replacements then? There must be some decent sound deadening available.
  5. Maybe I re - assess the situation I think. Hot feet, noise, dry ice, fingers that look like theyve been where they shouldnt... hmmmm. Maybe ill finish the front part Ive started, then leave the rest. Wouldnt replacing it with more modern materials (ie foam sound deadening you can get with carpet) make the job worth it? Oh yeah, I found that underneath it there are small access points to the chassis rails. Could be useful in hiding wiring etc.
  6. Yeah? I'm hearing mixed opinions, some people say its worth it some don't. I heard somewhere that there is about 9kg (don't quote me) of the crap to come out, we shall find out soon. I was looking into a spray on sound deadener as a replacement & some decent under carpet foam deadener. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, (& don't know squat about painting cars) so I was thinking I would rather be painting the actual floor (even tho you can't see it) than that horrible goop on top? If that makes sense?
  7. Sweet thanks. I gt a rubber hammer, but dry ice have to wait till pay day. I'm keeping all the shit (sound deadening, goop, etc) that I scrape off in a bag & Ill weigh it so when I'm done I will have an idea of how much it weighs in comparison to other forms of deadening. Thought it would be a gd idea to help people decide if its worth the effort or not
  8. That sounds way better than turning my fingers black. Id just have to find some dry ice then. Ta :P
  9. Cheers peoples, the appreciation is appreciated.... yeah ive seen just the twin headlight front end (just the parts for conversion) selling for $500 + & it wasnt complete, so I got a hell deal. don't know if i mentioned that the glass seems factory tinted all round, looks good. I think next time with those nasty nuts on the rear pillar vent I will buy a long socket or something to fit it, it took too long & was too frustrating last time. What did these trim bits come off the factory floor like? Ive seen all chromed ones, chrome round the outside, all black, black & chrome, so what is original? Or is it dependant on the trim level of the car? I got stuck into the sound deadening shit off the floor in the weekend, geez thats horrible stuff to get off. I just set up a fan heater on the part I was doing & slowly peeled & picked at it. Took me 2 hours to do half the front foot wells. Any magical crap removing tips or spells would be appreciated here, my fingers going black...ha.
  10. :) Chur, yeah we got the DXs, heaps of Starlets & plenty of sheep too...h I spent some time pulling all the trims off one side last nite, the door bump trim, pin striping, the rear pillar vents (damn those nuts were a c@#t to get at), plastic screw plugs in the gaurds & stuff like that. All came off with a scrape, some time & elbow grease. The sticky shit that is left comes off easily with a generic Wax & Grease Remover. The badges at the rear came off too, without stuffing em. Just sprayed some CRC around em, let it soak in behind it & carefully (with out bending it) pry it off with a couple of screwdrivers. Pop.
  11. Cheers man. I havent found the exact colour yet, but blood is probably the best description. Deep & dark as a fresh wound, but a vivid red in different lights. Itll go well with the black interior.
  12. Only a shot thru the window but it gives you an idea. 'Scuse the pics, Ive only got a click click camera, so photos take ages to sort out.
  13. Yeah, I think it was a Jap import way back, not too sure tho. Theres so many subtle differences btwn different countries & years - ie our trims over here seem a little different to yours too, DX, GL etc, just little things like badges & stuff.
  14. working on pics, having trouble, more to come
  15. Heres the pics...sorry I think I stuffed it up...
  16. WAS: Nana Spec Toyota Corolla KE70 DX 1980, 4-KU with 4spd, twin headlight model, overrated black interior, 75kms. NOW: In approximately a 1,319 pieces. EVENTUALLY: Paint - deepest & darkest blood red, full doors off repaint Engine - full recond, new cam, twin sidedraughts, extractors & exhaust. Ancilliaries- all brand new, rebuilt or recond - new water pump, distributor cap, rotor, points, leads, plugs, coil, new brake pads & discs, shoes, fuel pump & hoses, starter & alternator recond etc Interior - Tacho, dash lights changed from that horrid green to evil red, new roof lining & carpet, soundproofing, steering wheel, sounds. Suspension - lowered (sensibly) on new shocks, springs & bushings all round, Wheels - some Cherry Blossoms would be nice... Lights - front lights upgraded? Cleaned lenses & new bulbs all round Other - wiring looms all re-sleeved & tidied up, This is a minter. Nana spec, original 75kms, cost me $100 dereg'd. The interior is absolutely pristine, no rips or tears or cracks, overrated. Only 2 patches of rust to do, a fist sized hole behind rear left wheel & a patch on the boot seal, other than that, probably one of the tidiest stock sedans Ive seen. My aim is to have a 'rolla that looks as if it just rolled off some alternate 1980 production line. Gonna look pretty stock, but be better than new, go waaaay better, & last forever. Every little detail is going to be done, from undersealing chassis to roof lining. Everything. PS I was going to do this way earlier, but it has taken ages to get photos organised (sorry) so the procrastination has ended & time for action.
  17. :P so much to procrastinate over.... Thanks guys. I don't think there is a better source of information like this anywhere. I think I'll save up some decent coin, & hopefully find some SUs & a manifold to suit, or the webber 32/36... Ive decided that if I rush things & do it the cheap way, Ill regret it later, whereas if it takes extra time & coin to finish the project to 110% with all top end bits, itll be worth it. Ive got some photos being developed today, will hopefully have some pics up soon in the projects.
  18. I just found this.. Dreams are still free arent they? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/C...on-44836116.htm
  19. :harhar: Thanks peoples, i just saw it as an easy option, but not the way to go i guess. Would a Webber 32/36 bolt straight on to the stock manifold? I'm guessing that Pacemaker & Genie are brand names, so would they just be avail from exhaust shops ready to bolt on? 'Scuse the ignorance, I'm learning as I go.
  20. What about the twin Aisin Carbs & stock manifold? I saw a 4K on trademe.co.nz for $300 compl with twin carbs & manifold. Good for power ? This seems like a deal in comparison to other carb prices Ive seen. Also saw some 4K extractors for $50, is it worth buying new ones or just tidy up some old ones?
  21. Damn, that is coming along real nice. With all that sound deadening crap that is in the cabin on the floor, is it worth the effort to rip it out & replace? The entire car is all getting a full bare metal paint job, so Id rather not paint that crap, but its a helluva job to get it out. Basically, is there any tips or tricks to getting it off easier than a hot day? The PDF idea is a good one, I'm sure itd be well used.
  22. :) Yea, I'm from NZ, we've just started to get Super cheap Franchises over here in Chch. Havnt been there yet tho. Would normal spray paint last very long on em? I was looking at using some VHT engine paint or brake paint on 'em, it would be pretty durable, & match the block or brakes...
  23. Very motivational, & so easy to follow. I like the idea of painting the struts, mounts, engine undercover, control rods & bits black, makes it all look tidy as after the paints done. What paint & undercoat is gd to use for these? I guess it'd have to be heavy duty shit tho, huh. What did you use here? 'Cos it came up with a gd looking finish...
  24. Sorry, still working on pics, need to be developed. But the Ive managed to pull the entire interior out, along with air con, dash, carpet, seats etc. Ive labelled, cleaned & boxed it all up as I'm going, so that it goes back together easy. It could be in pieces for a long time, & with my (self induced) short term memory, this gonna help. All the dash wiring tonight, going to tidy it all up with new hose sleeves through out & labels, its all original wiring, plugs etc & all still overrated as. Contemplating on whether or not to pull th sound deadener shit out or paint over... Back when I can.
