the grill is missing tabs and has never sat well so that does make it look a little worse, i will try and align them myself as best i can. the car has had a hit previously that looks track induced so it could explain them being a little off. in the end i got $6000 worth of work done for $900, although i shouldn't have to pay anything the car does look alot better than it was before!

geeze that 86 looks fine...! i also partook in a country drive saturday which resulted in a raging case of truckers arm.
-
so grossy, so smooth!
-
i'm running redline lightweight shockproof in my box. it does shift a bit smoother. if you are keen i'll go halves in a gallon off ebay for $95, i'm about to aquire a t40...
-
good to see some runs after the dyno anyway, from what i can hear the car sounds a little different. all impressive non-the-less.

noice mate! times? and in that first vid i think its a ltd?

issue semi resolved. after dicking around with the panel beaters it has been discovered that the car has a power steering crossmember... the old manual rack that was in there had been shimmed up from 35mm to fit the 50mm clamp on the power steering crossmember so when they tried to fit the new rack with super pro bushes on it they rang me up and told me the car had illegal modifications on it and they weren't going to be able to work on it. fools! long story short i ordered some manual rack adaptor bushings from T3 over in the states, so hopefully they won't take too long and the car should be back on the road sooner than later. in the mean time i have bought a trd short shifter, T3 rca's, upper hat system for my coilovers, adjustable cam gears and a new light weight single row crank and underdriven water pulleys. yay!

struts look the business. should have taken more time to prep mine before i painted them!
-
yet another hang up in getting the car back, the smash repairers can't find suitable tie rod ends... i wouldn't imagine they would so hard to find!? plus they complained about the car taking so long and how busy they are... how about that fact i haven't had a car for 5 weeks! geeze!
-
cheers mate. no, that wouldn't have been, car is still out of action!
-
will need a piggy pack computer or full stand alone to get them to run properly. as sam said, picture of manifold!
-
i have a pdf copy of the manual and have read through the head prep part concerning joggles etc. did you polish your valve faces?
-
nice work matt, nothing like smell of hot lead and flux!

all very valid points. the limiter on the stock ecu is a problem if you run big cams such as those around the 270 mark. 256, 264 from research seem to be fine on the stock ecu but is it really worth spending money with a relatively small power gain? i don't know... it does offer more mid range torque i suppose. what sort of work was done to your head?
-
also feel free people to discuss the possible options for more power! in the near future i would like to get an aftermarket computer in order to run bigger cams and have the ability to tune the car a whole lot better, ie fuel delivery etc.

excellent build mate! those last track shots are awesome. i wish i could just bugger off and drive to melbourne haha.
-
any specs? i want mine a little more lower in the back. edit: i'm so lazy... checked out your build thread, very cool! that ride height at the rear looks pretty good. how much of the wheel is tucked. oh and i also have that rear spring creak, obviously i don't have the rubber boots either!
-
haha yeah i guess. mind you the trd springs that were in there were quite stiff. as a plus, i now have a complete pair of stock struts.
-
righto, here as some pics of the coilovers before they went in. got them from some guy's girl friend down the gold coast for $350? i can't remember but they were cheap! and this was taken at a jdmst meet a while back. notice the old rally style height!
-
yeah wtf is going on there? whats the need/point?

cheers terry, will hit you and matt up once i get the car back. semi trailer story goes: i was travelling inbound on the centenary highway just after the centenary bridge where the bend at figtree pocket goes around to the right. i was in the right hand lane just on the approach to the start of the bend in the road when a semi with a three axle flatbed trailer snaked into my lane. as the concrete divider was to my right and the road was pretty wet from the constent rain we had before the floods, i had absolutely no where to go and not enough space to brake in time. the back end of the trailer collected the front LHS on my car and i got stuck between the two rear axles and was dragged along for roughly 20-25~ metres. just before the apex i somehow became unstuck, i guess as the trailer was straightening up, and realised it has smashed my steering rack so i had no other choice than to tap the brakes and let the car slide across both lanes into the gravel and armco on the left hand shoulder. luckily there wasn't anyone else directly behind me. worst part is the truck nor anyone else stopped. tow truck rocked up pretty quick (as they do...) and was towed to their holding yard at sumner park. the following monday the car was towed to crawford smash repairs where it has been since. almost a month later the parts have finally arrived and the car is on the mend. i made a police report and tried to get cctv footage from tmr but the camera which would have captured the whole thing was facing the other way... so i'm left with a $750 excess and the shit fight that is insurance and their half arse work ethic when it comes to import cars which they apparently specialise in. i spoke to the assessor at crawford yesterday (nice people) and discovered that there is a crack in the chassis rail which he believes was previously there, which could be true as the car had been involved in an incident previously (most likely track related). however i don't think ruling out the latest incident as the cause is completely fair, even though they are going to weld it up for me. he did make the comment that he thinks the wheel alignment will be difficult as a result, but here is where my luck starts to turn around, well sort of! if they can't align it then it will become their problem as i got an alignment done one day prior to the accident and have the copy on the specs infront of me, all quite aligned!

have many ae86's rocked up in the past? interested regardless for the fact that there will be a few old corollas!

keen for updates, sounds like a great idea.
