  1. Hey guys this is my new ke30. Got it for 800 in really good condition and rego til middle feb next year!. only 90 000 on the clock

give me some feed back and some ideas for the car. wheels ect

    cheers harry

Nice buy mate, there's so much you can do. Just depends where you wanna take it and how much you wanna spend.

  2. You have a lovely rolla mate. There aren't any as old as that on TOC, and to be honest, they're the nicest!

Thanks dude, glad you like it  I love the classic look over modern anyday :hmm:

So I think I'm gonna put her in to get the Vl diff fitted just so I know it'll be strong enough if I decided to go turbo or Supercharge in the near future.

Only downside, Profab are full for the next 2 weeks so it's gonna be off the road for a little while longer :y:

    I'll keep yaz posted

  3. Last Sunday I took my corolla for a drive and got as far as Kiama (about 20 mins drive from home) and by the time I got there my diff was F$%ked. So the time has come to seriously consider a diff upgrade! I just don't know which way to go?

I've been contemplating getting a shortened commodore diff installed. I've been talking to the guys at pro-fab and they tell me if I supply the diff it'll be around $2k - $2.5K. A mate of mine has a vl diff he said I can have for $200. I reckon it's a bit of an overkill for the time being but I'm considering a 4AGTE or 4AGZE in the future so I want something that's gonna hold up!

Another option would be a hilux diff, I'm lead to believe I will still need to get the mounts re-welded, but I don't know how strong these are and if I'll need to get them shortened etc. :sob:

Can anyone help with my decision making? :sob:

  4. The speedo drive has a little tab that holds its housing in place in the extension housing (secured by a bolt). If that isn't there the drive housing could fall out, but I can't see how that would mash the plastic gear, as the plastic gear wouldn't mesh anyway. The speedo drive is a snug fit inside its housing so don't see how it could be loose?

Yeah the tab and bolt are in place n it just feels a little wobbly. I dunno, maybe it's the wrong gear. Might have to take it to the pro's to get it sussed out. Thanks heaps for the help mate :P

  5. The drive and worm can be independently changed. The gear being chewed is more likely due to the fact that the metal worm gear within the extension housing will turn no matter what, and if the gear gets jammed somehow, being plastic it will get chewed. It's the safety valve if you like.

I would imagine you have either a buggered speedo cable (or you have bent it to far on itself) and it is jamming up, or less likely the speedo has seized.

Thanks for the info dude. My cable seemed to flow freely when I had it out and to what I thought it had no tight bends in it. One thing I did notice tho was when we had the gearbox out the speedo seemed a little loose when it was bolted on. I'm not sure how tight they're suppose to be in the housing but do you think if there is too much movement that it's a possibility the gear could jam and get chewed?

  6. Hey guys just wondering if anyone can help me out. My speedo stopped working a little while back so my brother and I pulled out the drive gear and low and behold the nylon gear was chewed up in the middle, like a half moon shape. So we replaced it with the same gear. It only lasted a week, if that, and is chewed again. After doing a little bit of research I'm lead to believe it may be the wrong speedo worm drive ratio. Is it possible to tell how to figure out the correct speedo worm drive ratio just by looking at the worm gear or is it a matter of pulling the worm gear out and matching it to the drive gear???

I'm lead to believe there a few different ratios as such 5 x 19, 6 x 20, 6 x 22 meaning 5 starts on the worm gear and 19 teeth on the drive gear etc....

My drive gear had 20 and 9, or was it a 6, embossed on the end of the gear.

Any help would be much appreciated

  7. Dude those crystal blinkers are mad they look heaps better then the ones i've got. Any idea what they are off? I see you relocated them as i've done. Nice work looks good! As for the whitewall tyres I had some guy hand me a business card the other month and he specialised in painting them on your existing wheels. He had a range of different colours too. Can't remember the company but its here in Wollongong.

  8. Hi Mickoolz , i recognise your rolla you meet up with us at the gong yeah? are you comin to the next cruse to the entrance on the 9th of march? it would be great to have you come along as ive got another mate with a 35 coupe who will be there. Yeah that 120Y was such a mad little car, did the best smoke shows. :P But we both know Rolla's are were its at. :P

Hey man, yeah that was me. I haven't been on rollaclub for a while do to other comitments so I didn't even realise there was another cruise organised. I'll see what happens, i maybe partying for my birthday that weekend so could be a little hungover sunday, lol. I'll keep you informed. It sounds like a good idea tho, never really been on a cruise.

Yeah I learnt to drive in a 200B, it was full of rust and the motor blew so much smoke, she had character and she still ripped a mad burn out! hahaha

  9. Hey nice ride you got there, spewing about that ding tho! Very original i think, I'm not a big fan of the spoiler, skirts and splitter but i have to say its growing on me. Still all in all ,you've done well so keep it up. :P

  10. Nice work mate, looks very sweet! I've been considering doin a diff conversion in my ke35 4AGE, i'm getting alot of axle tramping in my stock banjo. It'll prob break it sooner or later, lol. I'll be interested to see the progress. Keep up the good work. :P

  11. I'm studying engineering at adelaide and one of my older mates graduated last year and does certificates here in sa, he was the one who told me. he said you can get away with it if you have a certificate but there are alot of regulations to abide by. I'm not sure about carbon fibre though as I'm sure it has different fracture properties to fibreglass. ring up the rta and find out from them, best bet cos i know in sa its a no no, but still, doesnt really stop people from doing it, and if your car is all painted up, how will anyone ever know?

Ok cool, Carbon fibre is defiantely more flexible and stronger but costly  thanks heaps for the info. I will look into.

  12. i was going to do this on my cordia but its illegal as the fibreglass splinters in the event of a crash and isnt safe for pedestrians and stuff like that. still you can do it for a "track" car if you really want, just like I am doing for my "track" corolla

Thanks for the info, how did you find this out? What about a carbon fibre bonnet I see alot of Skylines, Lasers and pulsars on the road with them these days, would this be illegal or where would I find out?

I helped a mate make a mould for his celica, bonnet and guards in one peice, for the speedway so Its ok for them to use but is there restrictions using fibreglass parts on the track?

  13. Hey guys I'm curious to know if it's illegal to have fibreglass guards and/or bonnet on a registered car?

I've heard off a friend that it may be illegal?

I was thinking about making some moulds of front guards and bonnet for a ke30 - 55 and making them in carbon fibre or fibreglass. This will be a long term project since I don't have full resources at the moment but I'm moving towards getting myself setup.

Will this be of interest to anyone? If I get enough interest I may make them available to all. As I said it will be a long term project as I don't have full resources yet.

  14. no tail lights - have you checked the globes (simple, i know but check them anyway)

Very simple indeed, I made the mistake of putting my globes in backwards, the brake lights worked but the taillights didn't, stupid me.

Check everything more then twice :D

Also Check the resistance in your wires could be a corroded wire somewhere, check all the earths too.

I also had a faulty indicator stalk and my lights wouldn't work at all. Get a test light and check all your connections to see if they're getting power, could help chase the problem.

  15. They are more than likely the same, they are only $10 plus postage...if you get them and they don't work, sell them to a Celica owner :D

Yeah I was thinkin of gettin' a few other things from the same ebay store too, I guess ya right. I could always just post em back on ebay if they don't fit.

Thanks mate, you made my decision for me, hahaha

  16. I had this problem in my car and the little barrel that is suppose to float in your tank had a tiny pin hole and would sink to the bottom, therefore the gauge would always appear empty. I'd suggest to plug the wire from the sender to some source of power to check if your gauge works and if it does then check the float for leaks by removing the sender from the tank and give it a shake to see if its full of fuel. If it is then i'd suggest taking it to a professianal to fix it or see if you can get a bit of cork to replace it, I've been told some cars come out with cork as the float.

    Cheers, Mick

  17. I had my gauge and sender checked my auto electric and said it was working fine, but still nothing on my gauge, i gave up, and do what Dyzza does got myself a jerry in the boot, saved my arse alot of times!

Did you try and check the float for leaks? If the little barrel has a tiny pin hole in it it'll sink to the bottom and your gauge will give you an incorrect reading. I had this happen to me during the week, I tried repairing it n it just kept blowing holes in it so I made myself a new float out of lite weight poyester bog I use at work, I need to keep checking it to make sure it holds up to the fuel. I've been told you can use cork aswell.
