  1. Cheers taz and altezzaclub. I might give the speedo a bit of a oil up and the cable. Could it also be the fact that its a 3 speed auto cluster with a 5 speed manual with 4:30 gears and 205/60r13 tires. All mixing putting it so far out? Cheers 79rolla
  2. Hey everyone. I am just wanting to know how much the diff gears may make a difference to the speed that the speedo is showing vs the car is actually going. The only thing that I have done is change it from a 3 speed auto to a 5 speed manual. The car still has the 4:30 gears in it. And with those gears from about 60km/h up the speedo is out. At about 100 by phone, the speedo sits between 110-115 km/h. But at 60km/h the car is doing 60km/h by phone. So I'm wondering will 4:11 gears fix this problem or make it worse? Cheers 79rolla
  3. Thanks banjo. I know the battery is at least ok as its new same with terminals and most parts of the wiring at this point. I think one of my problems is a faulty dimmer for dash lights as it don't change brightness and is stuffing a few things up at the moment. Might replace that and see how I go Cheers 79rolla
  4. Thanks parrot. First thing i checked was power and it is getting power to the socket. The ground seems OK as I had the multimeter connected to the ground and socket and it showed power there. There wasnt any corrosion in the socket as i could still see the bare metal in there. All bulbs that were used aren't blown and havent had problems with any of those bulbs before. The reverse lights have only stopped working in the last 24 hours. When I switch headlights on the dash doesnt light up either. But dash lights will turn on when ignition is turned on. Cheers 79rolla
  5. Ok thanks everyone, I solved that problem but now have another. The number plate lights have stopped working. They have power to them and I tried different bulbs but still no working. Just wanting to see what everyone thinks Cheers 79rolla
  6. Thanks altezzaclub. Yeah when pos wire connected and ignition on it gets power to neg side of coil. I might have to have another look tomorrow. Cheers 79rolla
  7. Need an opinion on why my 79 ke55 isnt getting spark. I have checked everything that could stop it from sparking. Resistor, power to coil, all ground wires, all fuses. Everything has been looked at and done. Replaced coil with 3 other coils, and all show no spark at all. It gets no spark out of coil. But it is getting power to negative side on every coil i have tried with only the negative wire being connected. So I want to see what you guys think it could be. Cheers 79rolla
  8. Cheers Banjo and altezzaclub. It does have a old fuel pump. So we are going to have a look at it. We know points aren't sparking 100% of the time. They are sparking 90% of the time. So it could be spark or the fuel pump. It has done it with multiple carby's so we will have a look today to see. It does also run very rich. So we will be having a look today and ill let you all know how we go. Cheers 79rolla
  9. Hey guys and girls. Just wondering if any one has any idea as to why my 79 ke55 shuts off under braking. Its under moderate to hard braking it cuts out. Light braking its fine and doesnt cut out. But moderate to hard braking it does. Doesn't matter if your on the clutch or not. It cuts out. Its done this with multiple Carby's now. Good and bad ones. But i don't know what it could be so would like some help on finding the problem. It is also a pain to restart. It will just sit there fast winding. It will take about 5 pumps of the pedal to restart if not more. Cheers 79rolla
  10. Cheers banjo and altezzaclub. The only thing that has been changed that I know of is the wheels, which i changed my self. It went from a 155/80/13 to a 205/60/13 tire. Thats all thats changed that I know of. Its still got the factory auto diff though. So I'm thinking it could be that throwing it out but I don't know. But I will have a look for damage on the speedo cable. Cheers 79rolla
  11. Sorry for the very late reply banjo. Jave had many other things to fix so i forgot about it. But i Have pulled the dash apart multiple times and it doesnt seem discoloured or broken at all. I'm thinking it could also be the blue sheet on the cluster as it only gets voltage when the regulator is in just the right spot, as it has to be touching it just right for it to work. Also I have another question fkr you. Do you know whether between having a 5 speed gearbox, 4 speed speedo cable, and 3 speed auto cluster whether that may put the speedo out over 60kmh. I'm asking this as my speedo is out but only over 60. 100kmh by speedo is about 85kmh and 120kmh by speedo is about 100kmh. Cheers 79rolla
  12. Thanks altezzaclub Its really only when cold outside. Like today its about 20c and its fine. But i will let it cool and see what its like later. Cheers 79rolla
  13. With the battery connected and car running it charging at 13.8v with both terminals off battery while running its about 16v. If i can't fix it soon I'm going to just get an after market one and find a place to mount it. Cheers 79rolla
  14. Hey mate so it wasnt connected to the sender when I measured it. But Just checked now and still no change in it working. Car is about 1/2 full at the moment. And the temp sender is disconnected and has been for a while. But with the fuel sender wire not connected it only reads the 9v other wise with connected only 5v. So I'm going to try the reg but ill see how it goes and update you later.. Cheers 79rolla
  15. Battery went flat yesterday with key on but I will mate. Cheers 79rolla
  16. Yeah mate. I know that my alternator isnt good as it charges at 16v at the moment Cheers 79rolla
  17. So I'm getting 9v at the wire for the sender. Is that right? Thats at the fuel tank itself. Or do I have other problems? Cheers 79rolla
  18. So i have the 10v at where is shows that it should on the cluster. At this point I'm going through ground wires, but not 100% sure where they all are and if that may be the problem. Cheers 79rolla
  19. Thanks altezzaclub. Just pulled the plugs yesterday amd 2 were a little white or white ish. With 1 grey and 1 covered in oil. Timing isnt see 100%, it is just set by eye. Ive changed the plugs twice in the month of may, due to the first time a similar ish problem with misfiring but it was when it was warmed up. And that time was just a fouled plug. But changed them yesterday and they weren't fouled at all. I can confirm that the ignition condenser isnt connected and never has been with this engine. (Engine been in 18 months) and it never acted up with it disconnected. Anyways, which side does it connect to? The positive side of coil or negative? Cheers 79rolla
  20. Umm so i'm getting -61ohms at the cluster. Yes I'm using a cheap multimeter but -61 doesnt seme right. What should it be at? 100? The tank is probably about half to 3 quarters full. Also the gauge only moves with a ground wire straight to sender. Cheers 79rolla
  21. This is what the back of my cluster looks like. 1 other question for you banjo, would you know why it only sometimes gets power? Cheers 79rolla
  22. No no sorry banjo. Didn't mean to repost. I was trying to get back to the post. It has helped me out mate. Cheers 79rolla
  23. Hey guys and girls, I have some questions for you all. So i have a 79 ke55 and I am having a few troubles with it. The temp gauge doesn't work when connected, the fuel gauge has stopped working now after a while of working on and off. As well as the speedo doesnt work properly. What I mean by the speedo not working properly is that at 60 it says 60 by the speedo, but at 100 the speedo reads at 120. As well as the blue sheet on the back of the cluster doesn't like being tightened properly (doesnt let gauges work when tight) at what I believe is the regulator for the fuel and temp gauges. What could be the causes for this? Why is the speedo out? Why is the fuel gauge not working? Hope this makes sense for everyone to read. Cheers 79rolla
  24. Its only on a really cold night that it does it. Or a medium cold night. So below about 20c out side temp is when it does it. It happens with the choke off. Last night we drove for about 5 or 10 mins after warm up. Cheers 79rolla
  25. Condenser isn't connected and hasn't been since the engine got put in. But with the Condenser disconnected it hasn't done this before. Points we don't think are 100% but yet again it hasn't really done it before. The last time it acted like this is when I had a nice fireball through the carby. So yeah idk what else or what is doing it. Thanks for a bit of an idea altezzaclub. Cheers 79rolla
