  1. that is not correct, shannons policy is that the car doesnt have to be legally modified,it only has to be in a roadworthy condition. i have 80k worth of cars insured through shannons and it costs me about $1200 a year....
  2. i'd like to know this too.i have a turbo 20v waiting to go into my ke55
  3. any details on the orange ke30-sneezi?
  4. i'll be tubbing my car in a few weeks.it'll be the third tubbed car that i've had. :lolcry:
  5. i'm not saying the lower the profile the better, every application is different.v8 supercars use 17's with slicks as a control tyre, but that is very different to a radial tyre on a 900kg car. a lower profile gives a more direct feel, which is more often than not interperted as a harsher ride. i guess most of the cars here have 13" rims for 'performance' :bash:
  6. do you guys realise how hard you need to push a tyre to deform? you certainly wont do it easily on the street with a road tyre. 8 psi was a tonuge in cheek comment,i'm well aware of deforming a tyre on 4wd's (we won the nissan trials a few years ago.we used to run 0 psi with beadlocks) and as for who told me this? well no one.its just what you learn after building heaps of cars and being involved in motorsport over 20 years :) i think you may be a little confused  if the rolling diameter is the same, the top speeds will be the same.other advantages of a bigger rim with lower tyre profiles include, bigger brakes, less tyre squirm (side wall movement in conering)more rubber on the road for a given width(tyre face sits flatter),possibly lighter.
  7. 18" tyres are cheap.17's are the same price as good 15's. i have 335/25/20's under the back of my torana, which rides exactly the same as when it had 295/50/15's in nsw you can engineer 18" rims on a ke
  8. they were 15's and i just had the guards rolled.the wheels were custom offsey simmons though... i'll go for 18's next time.people seem to think that a bigger sidewall cushions more bumps in the road, this might be true if you run 8 psi in your tyres :laff: but otherwise its a big load of bs,thats what suspension is for :lolcry:
  9. i will be racing it at the drags.
  10. i've had 245's on 9" simmons under a standard rear end. but i think if i move the springs in and go to the rail i should be able to do it.i just havent seen it done in a corolla.(n ot saying it hasnt been done)
  11. thanks, but thats not exactly mini tubbed :lolcry:
  12. has anyone here mini tubbed a ke55? legally in nsw you can tub to the chassis rail, and i reckon i might be able to squeeze a 275/50/15 in there. mainly after some advice from people who have done it and what there results were. some pics would be nice too
