  1. well now, nothing has changed on it since the last post except for some more rust and some more miles. 145 and some change on there now, STILL need to do my timing belt, my parking brake cables have seized and need to be changed. i have a box of parts at the shop waiting for a slow day when i can install them, oh yea i work at an automotive shop now on the south side of chicago. if theres anyone in the area that needs a good shop then we're it. i know my toyotas fairly well, but we work on ALL makes and models as long as we can get parts. from a 1976 VW micro bus to a 1982 Porsche 928 to a 2009 anything.
  2. yea, that i did and it was that long ago! let me tell ya, its not quite as slow as it was then. the timing advance and ebay header made a big difference, loosing the muffler to a rearending just further enhanced the pull nearing redline. it'll run all the way to 6000rpm before it starts to choke on itself, above 3000rpm it feels really strong...as strong as an NA 7afe can feel i suppose! i can't wait to finally rebuild the dual piston calipers and swap those on, i hope they grab the rotors a little better than the singles do.
  3. well the geo/corolla has under gone a few small changes, i got an ebay header, got rear ended, dropped the rear muffler in favor of just a tail pipe, fit my 6x9's in the rear deck, got some things i havent put on yet. the header+timing+intake+no muffler have made it really pull from 3000-6000.
  4. the procedure for checking/adjusting my timing involves jumping a diagonostic connector and hooking a tach to 2 points. its too early right now to rememeber or look it up. I'm not just asking for myself, my friend was wondering also. he has a different car entirely, but more work done to it.
  5. yes, odb-1. very basic ecu compared to more modern cars. I'm not sure how changing the timing will get along with the ECU, it has a distributor if that makes any difference timing is either 10 btdc or 15 btdc. the emissions sticker says 15 but on another sticker, an older one, it says 10
  6. oh man, those ooga horns are awesome! my lil bucket has 3 horns, the stocker (meeep) a high tone and a low tone. its not a pretty sound at all and its very loud. my friends car has like 8 different horns. an air horn, stock, and 2 or 3 peizio's then a few hidden ones for the alarm and 2 110DB horns in side the car.
  7. these cars, are the carbed with out an ECU carbed with an ECU, or are any of them that you guys have advanced fuel injected with an ecu?
  8. well that WOULD be a good place for it...considering it wont work properly after the cat one pre cat as opposed to one befor and one after or one before the pre-cat then one after the pre-cat then one after the cat. its a non heated O2 tho
  9. there was that...and the fact that theres little talk of the 7a-FE here or on the internet in regards to things like changing timing. the 7a-FE was only in about 1/4 of the corrolas and prizms sold, so there isnt alot out there on it.
  10. well its a fed spec 7a-FE. one O2 sensor before the cat. its all stock except for a modified intake. i just yanked the lil snorkel and now it pulls the air right into the bottom of the filter box through a hole thats 2x larger than the snorkels inlet. it feels like it has more oomph off the line and it revs up a lil faster when i tap the gas pedal. sorry, i didnt really think to search.
  11. i see....so basically....i should just leave it be because it wont add overall power, just give some top end or do nothing. i like having my peak torque at 2800 RPM, it gives a lil kick in the seat off a good launch even for a lil engine.
  12. whats the not simple answer and what could i gain by advancing? how much advance and what octane gas for what hp? would it shift my powerband?
  13. simple question, would i see any gains from advancing my timing and using higher octane gas?
  14. yea, the geo is fwd. hmm ive never posted a pic of it. best pic i have right now. the window is fixed now, the crank unit froze and something snapped...dropping my window into my door just in time for my drive to work and for it to sit out in the parking lot in the snow. hence the duct tape, i think you guys call it gaffer tape tho. :moon:
