  1. just to add some input. ive recently seen a 13b in a ke30 carolla. it looks easy enough. I'm not the biggest fan of rotor just because they are not as reliable and chew way to much fuel. but they can be fun and when treated right they are cool.
  2. i am six months into an auto electrical appretnicship. i am lucky because i love my job which is a supprise. i got into it because i didnt know a lot about it but when i started to mess around with my cars and mates cars i realised that this is an interesting thing to do i might do it as a job. at the end of collage i wone the fine furnature state award for tasmania. every one wanted me to go on and do it as a job but i didnt want to do it all day every day i just wanted it as a hobby. not to sound arigent but i figgered that i was best in the state at the time and i didnt realy want to keep going on. once you reach the top you can try to hold it or just go back down. the point mentioned at the start of this post was pretty true about running a hobby if you do it as a job as well. it makes sence and is a proven fact in most examples. its like if some one is a pro painter there house will be the worse painted house on the block. i have decided already that i will only stay in this industry untill i get qualified then I'm off. don't know where or what but I'm gone. most of the people at my work hate cars and hate there job. there is one guy that races his own rally car and he loves cars but that because he does everything but electrical on it. i don't want to lose my passion for cars but it is still only fresh so it shouldnt go in a hurry. not to put down mechanics again but most of the ones that bring stuff into work are the dummest people i have ever met. no ofence but they just are. just my 2cents
  3. its a grate idea. i did it to my magna about six months ago. i used a sailor moon silowet on all my dials and inverted the colour from black to white. i9 did it a slightly different way. -i scaned the dials on to photo chop -then i inverted the color of the image changeing all the black to white and vice verser -the red parts of the dial goes to a grey color and then i filled them in as a blue colour. (so i changed the red line to blue on my tacho) -i then found an image that i wanted (a silowet of sailormoon) -i placed this on the same layer but faded it in. so the silowet faded out slightly. -then the best trick was i printed it out on photo paper to give it a gloss white look with a faint silowet in the background. - it is then put back in as a replacement of the dials and looks a treat. i also did a set for a mate that had nismo on them and he told everyone that they were real nismo ones. every one belived him because they look realy good. hope this can help. if you need better instructions pm me.
  4. i am realy keen to get in and do something like this but i just don't want to loose interest in it and it all be a waste of time thats why i don't want to go throwing huge handfulls of money at it. but i will have fun doing it and even more fun driveing it which is all that realy matters.
  5. back in the day when i was young and on my Ps i had a pod filter on my carbied 18R carona. it consisted of 2 90degree 80mm plumming bends. one night all of my mates and i were out being hoons then we when to our local hang out. i poped the bonet to show them all the setup. as i lifted the bonet i exposed the pod hanging off (very dodgy) to everyones suprise i grabed a roll of electrical tape and taped it back on complete with elctrical tape praces that ran around the inlet manifold. they were the days that i could get away with dogy stuff like that. there aint much that can't be fixed with a roll of tape and some speaker wire
  6. also KE30nuts is a good friend and he has said he can help with the conversion which he says is easy as pie. i would hope that i could do it for 3K but ill say 4K to allow for the unknown.
  7. yea true it is all relative but as some of you know i don't know much about these toyota motors. i have always been a fan of the SR nissan motors and the CAs have a few common falts but the motor will fit with out much work or money which is the main thing. the main idea is to keep cost down and proformance up. i think the motor will make good power even being standard. front mount exaust and computer and ive got more again. true it hasnt got all the extra technology in it but for the first motor conversion and rebiuld i do i think it is a good starting point. i just want the car for a bit of cheap fun so i think it will go well. but thanks for everyones input because thats what i needed. if i also buy the KE35 i should be able to get the car and engine biult up and running for between $3K-4K which is cheap. when you compare that to a 4AG or SR conversion where that amount would only just scrape the surface.
  8. a friend of mine is selling his 3t-gteu for $1000. i had a look at the motor last nite and i want to buy it the only thing is that it is spread out through about 3 sheds. up side is that it has all seals gasgets new pistons ECU everything including a spare Block and head minus internals. does this sound like a good price to pay.
  9. thanks after i posted that i did a quick google seach and found a heap of stuff
  10. i just dug this one up because ive been offered a 3t-gteu for $1000. it has just been rebiult. as far as i know it has been in a ke30 and it has also just been rebiult. does anyone know if they make decent power and are they a very strong motor. can much be done to these engins without reducing reliability? thanks for any input
  11. thought that i would add. end result (hope) is a high torque (high reving id like that don't know why) and high HP. i would like it to drift with ease. i am working on plans for the supension but i am also unsure about what type of dif to run. eg where can i get an lsd to fit thanks
  12. so if you don't mind me asking what is your point in this post. did you want to see what other people think about value for money tuneability and brand or did you just want to know who thinks microtech is better than wolf
  13. i would like to know what the best value for money engin is that bolts straight in. to brake it down. take a ke 30 carolla. add a cheepish engin thats easy to fit in or bolts straight up. with a strong gearbox. my plan. profered twin cam to start with. if carbied it will be made fuel injected with quad throttle boddies. if already fuel injected quad throttle boddies and aftermarket ECU. basicly what engin proferably twin cam fits in with minimal effort and can be modified easily with plenty of avalable parts. thanks for any help if this post makes sence
  14. i didnt know that haltec wernt self tuning/ learning ECU s i get quite a few race cars come through work with haltech in them why? because they are reliable and probbably the cheeper of the better ECUs. the only falt i know of is that some haltech have idel problems. i don't rate wolf at all because i see to many people haveing problems with them. while a microtech may compete better with price from what i have found it is better to spend the extra money after all it is the brains of the car. haveing the extra tuneability is always better. but the bottom line is it all costs $$$ and when you have a $1000 dolar car is it worth putting a $1000 computer in. most people run out of money at this point and just want it running but you are better to do it right the first time.
