Yea, everyone i've talked to really couldn't justify the cost of the Redline. If your getting it done for you, shop around, i found HUGE variation in price for getting this done. $60 - $350. Guess which one i chose :)

Hehe, i have the opposite problem. The crunch feels more like it's in the gear selector i.e. just under the leather boot. It will generally only crunch shifting UP to 3rd at around 6krpm or 80km/h. It only happens when i shift quickly though. Running a 7afe AE102R. Thinking it might be slack selector cables.

Hi Guys, I took my 7a-fe engined 102R in for an oil change/service and they saw what i thought had happened - there was a small leak from the rocker cover. I am guessing the charge to fix it would be quite a bit and also think this is a pretty straight forward job. Has anyone got any links to a teardown/replacement of rocker gasket etc? I'd need to go buy a torque wrench i'm guessing...since i don't have one i might just pay the guys to do it. (ps. Mods....any chance of a noob/wanna be mech section? :) )

I can deal with stupid. I'd rather be stupid than have the wrong item. hehehe I'm pretty sure theres only one way to put them on. The flaire'd piece goes closest to the windscreen cos thats threaded for the spline. Not as though my model is rare or anything....just a hatch version of yours. Only reason i'm fussed is cos a guy at work gave me a $400 momo wheel and i want to actually put it to use rather than just take it for nothing. I'll try and take a photo of my fail - hopefully i do turn out to be stupid.

Yea thats exactly what i thought. I just thought maybe not all other manufacturers adhered to that. Just a bit strange that a SAAS boss kit for 96 corolla doesn't fit on my standard spline....waste of $70.

^ Cos it says AE model....and the one I have (BK192L) doesnt fit for some reason. Only goes about half-way down the frickin spline. So even if i do the nut up it will only go down half the thread. I am presuming that ain't right. I've spent so long on the damn thing I'm pretty convinced that model doesnt fit my car.

I bought a SAAS boss kit ages ago from SCA and had to order it in. I told them my car was a 96 model so i got part#BK192L. Trying to install it and I'm not real happy with how far down the spline it sits - even with a fair amount of persuasion it is only half-way down the spline. So i did some research and according to a nice PDF there is a different part. 13-BK138L CSX - SECA - AE SERIES 1985 - 1988 13-BK192L COROLLA 1993 - ON So...mine's a AE102R CSX 96 model...which is correct?

It looks as though i have to remove the whole splashguard to get to it.....Damn! Fun times :2thumbs: Oh, i found one of Hiro's posts on Toyomods - think i'll just follow that for now.

Removing the snorkel from my AE102R...was a bit tricky but i have it off now. Now i noticed that through that hole where most people put their pod is a black box. What is it? It's just inside the front wheel guard.

Yea - i now realise i meant bulb replacement....not full on HID conversion. Still coming up to speed on the slang etc. I'll start looking around :wink:

I'm wanting to install HID lighting into my AE102R. I looked through the repair manual and it doesnt list the actual globe type i need. Anyone know? Or has anyone got some good online resources for learning about how to do this?

Toyota have about 2000 of them in stock. They sell them for $500 each. I kicked up a stink and got them down to $200. Still way more than i wanted to pay...but i did it. Oddly enough the lock replacement is quite hard to get now. So much fun.....

Some little so n so amateurs tried to break in through my boot the other week. Destroyed the lock and surrounds. Anyone seen the rear garnish in good nick at a wreckers/auto spares place? Pick n Payless had one but sold it the other day :jamie: Anyone know what the rough cost would be?

Ok - had to use the steernig wheel puller. Got it off fine :sob: However - i went to put the boss kit over the spline and found that it is too deep for my socket wrench :sob: It also looks like the aftermarket wheel will be sitting a fair bit further forward than the stock due to the length of the boss shaft. Is anyone able to give me a side-on pic of their steering column just to compare? I'm thinking rather than buy more tools, it may be cheaper to just pay a mechanic to do it. Any thoughts on that from experience?

Yea - i had removed the spline nut entirely - after your response Hiro - I'm going to change to that tactic hehe. I'm thinking Hiro's 4th steps is what i need. It's a 96 model spring-loaded.

I have an aftermarket steering wheel and the appropriate SAAS boss kit. I can remove the horn assembly - although i busted that little retention spring mechanism after messing around with it too much (really peeved and kinda worried bout if this will cause me any problems). ;) I yanked the wheel so hard - and still couldn't get it off, so I'm guessing i need a steering wheel puller as the instructions said i might. Anyone got experience with getting these stock wheels off? I peeked further into the steering column and couldn't see any other screws i had missed.

Hi i'm Camille (I'm male despite the name) from Mount Annan I'm 26 on my red P's (LOL). Got my first car which is a AE102R CSX 7AFE engine. Got a 2.5" exhaust on it and 16s or 17s, not sure. Nice black tints too :P Momo 14" rally wheel. Joined to get ideas on how to play with my new toy (even though i've had it almost a year).
