Trent-KE30 Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 Hey Guys, got a KE55 with a shagged diff, but got a parts KE30 with a great diff, the KE30 has the older banjo type diff and the KE55 has the borg warner. Question at hand is will the KE30 Banjo diff bolt into my KE55 without changing much? Any help will be much appreciated, Cheeers Trent :) Quote
Raven Posted December 2, 2006 Report Posted December 2, 2006 Change the tailshaft to a KE30 item and bobs your uncle (or auntie if he's a crossdresser! :)) Quote
Trent-KE30 Posted December 2, 2006 Author Report Posted December 2, 2006 Aight, So just use my old KE30 tailshaft with the banjo and she should be sweet!, Thanks Raven! Quote
thomo Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 and use your '55 backing plates and drums, bolt straight on to the '30, bigger, wont mess up your brake bias like the little 30's will (unless you have an early '55 same drum size, use antone you want) Quote
Rolla__Boy Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 It wont affect the brakes anyway. Mine has KE55 Calipers on the front, and little KE30 drums on the back, it stops the same as before, and I've had the reverse, big KE55 drums and KE30 calipers and it stopped the same Quote
Trent-KE30 Posted December 28, 2006 Author Report Posted December 28, 2006 Righto thanks Rolla Boy :y:, Am going to tackle it this weekend, will let you all know how i go!, Cheers Quote
Trent-KE30 Posted January 3, 2007 Author Report Posted January 3, 2007 Okay guys, Got the banjo diff in on the weekend, but one little problem the handbrake line is too big and it won't slide into the banjo drum, did anybody else have this problem?, apart from that it all worked out sweet!, will get pics up soon.. Cheers Trent Quote
Raven Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 Swap the backing plates and brakes over from your old diff dude and it will all work. Quote
Trent-KE30 Posted January 3, 2007 Author Report Posted January 3, 2007 newb question, but how hard is that to do?, do i have to take the axels out?, Quote
MRMOPARMAN Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 its easy to do, but still a bit of a pain. jack up the rear end, and support it SOLID. take wheel and drum off and then look in at the backing plate underneath the hub. there will be 4 nuts that hold the backing plate to the flange. undo them (with socket, extension and ratchet, thats why theres a hole in the hub) and disconnect handbrake cables if previously connected. also undo the brake line that goes into the wheel cylinder. now get either the drum reversed, or an old rim, over the hub and reverse the wheel nuts and screw them on loosely. then use drum/wheel like a slide hammer. belt the axle off. it will take quite a few blows! when it eventually comes off, the complete backing plate will slide out with the axle tube. so ya can do that, or you could just change the handbrake cable off the other car?? on some really arsehole diffs, ive had to grab an old rim, bolt it solid to the hub, and use a sledge hammer to belt the friggen axle out, whilst turning the wheel to give a better spread of the blows. i hope for your sake it comes off easier than that. Trent-KE30 Posted January 3, 2007 Author Report Posted January 3, 2007 Thanks MRMOPARMAN!, I'am going to try and drill the holes out a little bit so the cable can slide through there, will let you know how i go! Quote
