Nitephyre Posted October 19, 2003 Author Report Posted October 19, 2003 hahahah that looks mad shit :) ok fellas, I'm starting to get ideas flowing for the shagon... so i think i might ship the engine off somewhere to get played with and rebuilt. think i might go for a Tighe cam, since ive heard how good they are. dunno wether to get my spare (it's from a 5K, so it should fit, right?) reground, or get them to make one or pick one they stock... of course i havent called up for prices etc, plus i don't know about what different grades of cam do what to engine power/drivability/hornyness :) etc then i'll source a 5 speed and a heavy duty clutch, cause the one in it (was replaced not long before i bought it) is light as f@$k and i hate light clutches, the one in my old ke70 was nice and heavy, and well, the one in the XC... :D then i don't know wether to get the Holley carbie i've got laying around rebuilt and use that, or get twins of some description. apparently 4K's can go nicely with an EFI setup, but i don't think my budget can extend to that if i want to get ANY bodywork done. SO any helpful hints, as always would be tops :) matt :blinks: Quote
Nitephyre Posted October 19, 2003 Author Report Posted October 19, 2003 o0o i don't remember putting notification on heh :blinks: hey, um.. the track hire thread has gone missing man, and long posts aren't being wrapped.. what'ya reckon the 4K-E would cost roughly? Quote
demuire Posted October 19, 2003 Report Posted October 19, 2003 But why on earth would you pay $700+postage from NZ for a second hand 4K-E when for that price you can get a secondhand 4A-G? I suppose if you REALLY wanted to stick with the K engine then... Even then I think it'd be more worthwhile to go with a 5K. Or, for that price - even a 7K-E. Quote
demuire Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 Classy? Since when was EFI classy? It's all boring little sensors and a speghetti of wires and stuff :) Classy is a nice set of big carbies :blinks: Quote
Nitephyre Posted October 20, 2003 Author Report Posted October 20, 2003 ok now what monster is a 7K-E ? but yes, i like the idea of a nice Weber/Holley or twins, spose something like twin solex or etcetera? Quote
demuire Posted October 20, 2003 Report Posted October 20, 2003 7K-E: 1.8L (?) K motor, EFI. Came out in I think some Liteaces or something. Quote
Nitephyre Posted October 20, 2003 Author Report Posted October 20, 2003 ahh cool... the sedan i sold had a 5K in it, it was a nice little engine for only 1.5L had some damn nice torque :blinks: Quote
Nitephyre Posted October 20, 2003 Author Report Posted October 20, 2003 heh nah, it sounds like a cool option, cause I'm not out to make the shagon a power monster, i just want it to have a decent amount of poke, and look stylish (read pimp :blinks: ) while it's doing it... and also be functional for things like going camping, and road trips etc :) Quote
Nitephyre Posted October 24, 2003 Author Report Posted October 24, 2003 (edited) ok well i changed this post because ive changed my mind after going to talk to some experts today (tues 28th) i went to frawley's and the guy there, old fella named Bob was really helpful and knows his shit... he's going to do some calculations etc but what i think I'm going to go with is a full standard rebuild, getting a mild regrind on my 5K cam and putting that in, plus boring the head etc ,10:1 compression, and if it fits we'll put a 5K crank in it as well to up the capacity a bit and give some more nice low end accelleration & torque :-) i also went to carb-tech and spoke to one of the guys there, and he said that for what i want, its most likely better to go with a 32/36 downdraft weber. though i might take the Holley i;ve got up to him and find out what it is, if it'd work with my specs etc so, finally i've gotten the ball rolling :) :greenclap: :blinks: Edited October 28, 2003 by nitephyre Quote
Redwarf Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Bob the Builder said you'd passed through. He seems a bit busy at the mo, I went up there to see if he'd do a 2 litre esky motor for me and was promptly told to "speak to the hand"! After Christmas for that one then. I've got Melindas motor there, too. The Guys at Carb-tech are top notch, too. Did you speak to the older guy with glasses or the younger guy? Cheers, R Quote
Nitephyre Posted November 10, 2003 Author Report Posted November 10, 2003 uh, initially to the young guy... but asked another quick Q of the old guy... might go there tomorrow with the old Holley carb ive got lying around and ask him what it is/if it'll do :KY: and yeh, bob was a top bloke.. really helpful.. and yeh, he said january at least to me too ;) *edit* i went back today with the Holley carb i've got sitting in my garage, and the young bloke said it's a 180 generally used on the 2L Pinto, and pretty much the same as a webber, and only $200ish to rebuild it... so i think i might use it. when you got a chance rob, i wanna ask you if the manifold it's on looks like it's for a 4K... cheers ;) Quote
