With all due respect Woodstok, the Volvo four-pot upgrade is one used by many people on many cars, and on many Corollas, so Casey has a valid point. That being said I know where you're coming from and a Volvo specialist would be the best person to ask, but there's no harm in finding out if someone from this club has done similar research (highly likely) and has got an answer.

There is information about upgrading the KE3x/KE5x/xE7x using Volvo 244 calipers with Nissan Pulsar SSS rotors. Unfortunately it doesn't give Volvo specific details, but it should help you with the upgrade. Personally I'm going for Series 5 RX7 calipers as they're meant to be much lighter, and they only set me back $250 for a pair of fairly good ones. For about $300-350 you can get fully reconditioned ones. Don't know how much Volvo calipers go for, but both Volvo and RX7 calipers are fairly saught after for old school upgrades.

Well speaking from someone who runs them in both our KE-15 & KE20 they are an excellent conversion.

 

We have just purchased another set for the new car so i will let you know what model they came from as my Dad has just purchased them last saturday.

 

The nice thing about this conversion is that you can upgrade to 4 pots and still fit them all inside a 13" rim with ventilated discs. For a light car we ran a modified set of Pagid pads and we have done 3 Classic's in them and they would have worn approx 2mm.

They feel great on the Pedal!!!

shouldn't really matter Casey what model they are off, just make up the mounting brackets for the calipers you end up getting. Just because somebody has used 244 calipers before, doesn't mean YOU can't use 240 ones. :y:

 

And actually, on the topic of dak dak calipers - There is actually a type of subi caliper that is awesome for a rear disc up grade being that from the 1969 sport L wagon. You actually use the front calipers from the subi and put them on the back of your car. being from the front of a car, they are more than big enough for a decent up grade, but also, because the subi has the hand brake on the FRONT WHEELS rather than the rear they still have hand brake brackets, attachements etc on them!! :jamie:

Err, a dak-dak is a Volkswagen, not a Volvo. :y:

 

As for the Subaru calipers, that is actually a very interesting idea, and I hope someone tries it out on a Corolla. Personally I like the idea of a setup like many cars are going for with rear discs with a built-in drum for the handbrake. I don't know if it's just me, but drums seem to lock up better for handbrake turns, plus it provides seperate adjustment from the main brakes. The only issue is finding a setup to suit a Corolla.

Ah forgot to mention, I have those subi calipers on the rear of my rx4, and does it stop!!!!!! Rx7 4 pots should be on the front of it in the next month, then its gunna chuck me through the windscreen!!

Only adjustment will be on the handle that all cars have, but they are also self tightening as the pads wear.\

Don't know what sort of discs I'm using (they're pretty decent vented rotors) as I bought this set up as is on another diff (bigger) and just refreshed everything. I had to go through a Bendix catalogue and match the old pads to the pictures to find out what the calipers were!! :y:

Mazda has been in hiding for nearly 6 months as I had a security issue (someone stole me keys!) and I've been busy working on the rolla anyway. Gotta do some work on it pretty soon so I'll take some pics. :fuzz:

After having rear discs brakes on my 1989 Mitsubishi Galant which incorporated the handbrake, I've always been wary of disc handbrakes. I know someone with an FTO with the same problems, but I don't know if it's a disc handbrake thing or a Mitsubishi being a piece of shit thing.

i have skyline/pintara disks and calipers.

just need to find the adapter plate, a place in nsw called craft differential sell them but i can't get in contact with them

Just get them made Casey.

 

I needed brackets made for the s4 4 pots on the rx4, Belly from S&D Auto (down chuchill park road) is doing the brakes for me and he just got a contact at ACL to laser cut them for me.
