Teddy Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 Hey all Well, Ive been thinking again with the motor designs, and i thought of another idea. Now, I'm not sure if its considered a 2 stroke..? (see pic) Anyway! My idea is simply a cylinder, big inlet port & valve on left, and Big exhaust port & valve on right with a big spark plug up the top... (as in pic ) Would this work? would more valves instead of 1 big 1 for each inlet / exhaust? Yes / no ? thanks ! Quote
demuire Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 I don't see how that would have any advantage to a traditional style cylinder with the valves on the top? Besides, in your design how would the valves open when the cylinder moves up? Quote
Ruts Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 I agree once the piston is past halfway up the cylinder what use are the valves - there would be MASSIVE compression inthe top third of the cylinder and only the sparkplug opening to release it Quote
irokin Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 theres something already been designed like that. Its known as a 2 stroke diesel. Very efficent engine. Basically it has exhaust ports and valves up the top, inlet ports down the bottom which are opened and closed by the piston. They only work with forced induction. Usually found in very large motors...i.e. locomotives etc Quote
Ruts Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 Apparently some guy down south has invented a compressed air rotory engine. No emissions! /me reads the obituarys .... he'll show up in there soon Quote
