outburst Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 (edited) I do not know alot about cars, i am just learning. As most of you know I'm on the lookout for a new gearbox for my red 4age. However i spoke to a guy at work and he said i needed to replace something , can't remember what its called. Problem being gears crunch going into second above aprox 30kmph, every other gear is fine. It will go into 2nd without crunching at around 20-30kmph if i ease it into it and will go in no troubles below 20. Does this mean i need a new gearbox??? Edited October 2, 2007 by outburst Quote
Des Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 Some one has been floging the ring out of the box, Nailing it in 1st and then snapping 2nd quickly. Maybe try some redline gear oil and see if that helps. Quote
TRD ke70 Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 second gear synchronizing cone is ether worn out or the cone has polished the gear that it runs on. in short, no you don't need a new gearbox, try a different oil of a lower grade, if that doesn't fix it the box will have to come apart. Raven Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 What car is the gearbox in? I've heard of front wheel drive 4AGE AE82's and the like having the crunching issues and its to do with the linkage set-up off the gearbox. Quote
outburst Posted October 2, 2007 Author Report Posted October 2, 2007 ae82, may be the case may not.. Its really frustrating though cos i don't wanna spend big bucks if i don't have to. Quote
tas_ae71 Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 no one really wants to spend money, if they have to or not.. Quote
Raven Posted October 2, 2007 Report Posted October 2, 2007 First things first, make sure the linkages are properly adjusted. :) Quote
