Pete-ke20 Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 (edited) Hi all, I am new to this site and love the knowledge that is on it. I have found it however a little hard to source information via the search feature, being a new member. I have an idea on a section that could be added to this site, A 'Tech write up section' where experienced members can submit a write up on a conversion or modification, for example brake upgrades for a KE20, or 4age in ke30. The would be an like an online e-book where people couldn't post replies and to post an 'article' it would have to be submitted to a mod, where it could be briefly looked over for correctness and stuff. This way all the 'common' questions that are asked everyday can be easily found by new users or even longterm members. It could have its own link on the main page such as Tech writeup's or Tech pages and have then 4 sections depending on the model i.e. KExx AExx etc and within those categories sub sections such as brakes, suspension, driveline, engine conversions, interiors etc.. then articles listed alphabetically........ much like a library Just an idea but it would make compiling useful proven data much easier, Oh and pictures should be included in all articles! Things from how to change oil to how to install a motec system in to a ke20 with a 20v 4age, an indexed system would be the aim! My 2cents but i think the site would benefit from it. kangaroosa Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 Look up the top of the page for the FAQ. Is that what your talking about? FAQ Quote
Pete-ke20 Posted October 22, 2007 Author Report Posted October 22, 2007 yeh kinda was thinking something that had some more howto type things in it, but as i said i am new and well kinda missed that FAQ button up there and i have spent a fair amount of time looking around, don't i feel silly Quote

Alot of other forums have a similar setup to what your talking about. I know that PGA (Pulsar Group Of Australia) have a very comprehensive tech section that is only available to donating members. I think it would be great if the FAQ tech contents could be bulked up a bit. I guess its just a matter of getting the technically minded people that have done conversions to write it up. Quote
irokin Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 Perhaps I should make the FAQ link a bit bigger or something... Yes we did have a tech write up section at one point in the past but all that stuff should be in the FAQ/wiki now. If you're not sure how to use it just post the info up and someone should be able to format it for you. You will need to signup to the FAQ separately and validate your email to be able to post or edit articles. Don't worry if you bugger something up, the pages can be easily reverted. Spammers used to overwrite entire pages so I don't think anyone here could do any worse.....I hope... While we're on the topic is there anyone keen to do write ups or help format write ups?? Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 Ben I'm keen on write ups Ive done a fair amount on my KE30 and ke15 just DIY mods on brakes looms etc so Id write some up for a tech section. As I know I think the search function is poo and hate it. So tech section with just articles and that would be great. Cam Quote
irokin Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 The FAQs search coding is far superior to the forums. If the forums search isn't netting anything you can always do a google site search. http://www.google.com.au/search?q=site%3Arollaclub.com Heck I'm so nice I made myself late for work doing this for everyone: http://www.rollaclub.com/google.php That should net all but the most recent posts, but google seems to be crawling us with heaps lately so there'll be very little missed. Keep the writeups to the FAQ, the forum isn't designed for them. I am keen however to reorganise the index to make it easier to find what you're looking for. Quote
Pete-ke20 Posted October 23, 2007 Author Report Posted October 23, 2007 Hi, Haven't been on in a few days, but first thing i noticed is the new heading for the FAQ, when i first saw the FAQ i thought it was FAQ's about the site not a tech section hence my not going in there. And nice google php insert should make searching a lot better and less poo like. Awesome Pete Quote
irokin Posted October 24, 2007 Report Posted October 24, 2007 Constructive criticism always welcome. Often the first time user is forgotten when designing pages so your input helps immensely! Quote
