3s-ge Injectors Into 4a-ge

Featured Replies

Hey all.

I am just starting to rebuild/modify a 4A-GE to put into my AE71 race car as a learning experience, I thought about upgrading the injectors using the ones off the 3S-GE sitting in the backyard which my sister blew up.

My 4A-GE is a Blue top, So it has the 182cc injectors (Grey) Which equates to 36.4hp/injector so 145.6hp (91kw) is its max functionality. The 3S-GE injectors are 250cc. So that equates to roughly 50hp/injector so 200hp (125kw) would be their max fuctionality. So these injectors would only be good for under 125kw.

I searched the FAQ and it says you can use 7M-GTE injectors as an upgrade (440cc = 352hp(220kw)), Only problem is i don't have a 7M-GTE sitting in my backyard (Darn It!!)

My Questions: 1) Am I right in syaing what i have said above?

2) Should i be bothering with the 3S-GE injectors at all?

This is the site i used to work out the power capabilities for injectors

All Info appreciated

Cheers

Jake

I don't know about the power calculations, but they seem to be in line with info I've seen previously.

As for 7M-GTE injectors, I purchased a set of six about two years ago for my 4A-GZE, but haven't yet installed them (no point yet as the engine's still stock). So I'm hoping the info on them is correct. :drgrim: But I have heard of quite a few people using 7M-GTE injectors as an upgrade for 16v 4A-GZE's and 4A-GTE's. Then if they're not enough (which would be rare), apparently 550cc RX-7 injectors are another bolt in upgrade. If using a 20v engine or fuel system, then 440cc 1JZ-GTE injectors can be used. 16v's use side feeds and 20v's use top feeds (or it might be the other way around).

To try and answer your question, just changing to bigger injectors won't give more power. However upgrading to the larger capacity injectors will be a good basis as preparation for higher power. So the answer to both your questions is yes.

Thanks For the reply.

I Understand that just putting bigger injectors wont give me more power, as an engine can only burn as much fuel as the air its getting. So to just put these injectors on would just flood the engine with too much fuel.

But i have bigger plans for the engine so as you said they will be a basis for preparation of higher power.

I use 2.18 for my calculations. i.e. 250cc/2.18 = 115kw ...but thats for turbos so you could probably milk a few more kw out of them safely. If you have big plans I hope its for more than 125kw. Diecently sized injectors are cheap anyway. From memory I paid ~$90ea ex japan for my 700cc Sard low imps.

It isn't that simple. What ECU are you running? If it is a standard ECU then it won't know the injectors have got bigger and therefore you will flood the engine as it will send pulses according to MAP etc assuming the injectors are 182cc. All you will do is wash your bores.

You also need to take into account what resistance the injectors are, high or low. Standard bigport are low impedence - around 2ish ohm, and from memory 3SGE are high - around 13 ohm. Your injector drivers can't cope with this.

However, if you are running an aftermarket ECU, things are different.

Having said all that, I am going to try some 225cc series 1 1GGTE low impedence injectors in my bigport running a standard Jap ECU and an old HKS F-con piggyback fuel computer.

At the moment, i havent got any ecu as i am only in the re-building stage. Once the motor is built i will be buying an aftermarket ecu probably a wolf. But at the moment i am waiting on a few things so i can't really do much to the engine till they arrive.

I am aiming for more than 125kw. But at this stage i am still doing a little bit of research still.

I didnt think about the resistance. Thanks. Will have to take that into account.

Cheers for all the input

Jake
