I'm in debt from buying Superlites (still), and I'm getting bored not being able to spend money on the car... so I was just wondering about ways to clean up my engine... as in like the parts and stuff. Something to do at home just to keep myself busy...

Make sure you degrease all the greasy parts! And then get your hands on some "autosol" (only use on raw finished metals). Then polish what you can by hand and paint what you can for that 'clean but better than factory look!'

 

This is how my 7k came out after some elbow grease (i got the rocker cover professionally polished).....

Rocker Cover is the most visible seen engine component. It's just the metal cover that covers your valves, tappets etc.. Goes on the top of the head. All you need is to undo two I think 10mm? Or 12mm? Bolts. You can get I think it's the ports? Ported and polished? Though I am not sure on that. You shouldn't polish your intake manifold on the inside, Needs to be rough for a good air-fuel mixture. If you polish the inside, puddling might occur.

 

If you are a big BLING fan. I'm sure you can get things chromed like different metals.. Though I am not so much of a major bling person.

You have to think before you post dude!!!!!!!!!

 

Give the bay a good degrease, thats a good lace to start, making sure you cover electronic or electric components.

 

Then, if your really anal, start pulling things off one at a time, then paint polish or hit them with brake cleaner.

 

This should give you the desired finish

There is nothing in this post stating an ENGINE BAY. Only ENGINE.

 

So I thought he wanted the ENGINE clean. Not engine bay. If you want the bay cleaned, then do as above.

I did my engine bay the other day, Just a can or two of export degreaser and then i hit it with the pressure washer. After that hit all the lead connections with some wd-40 so she would start again. not the shinyest but its clean.

They go to the distributor as well, right? Do you spray the rocker cover end or the distributor end?

Both, and the lead going from the distributor to the coil.

Useful trick if you can be bothered,

 

Cover your distributor in a plastic bag, just roughly wrap it around the top in and around leads etc,

Then degrees the engine and bay and then remove the bag,

I'd still hit it with wd40, but the bag should have stopped most of the water getting near it.. :)

Well, basically all the parts that have had paint on them from factory can be re-done/painted. I painted the block with black engine paint before we fitted it and same goes for the silver head. But apart from them it's just one thing at a time. You can paint the engine fan shrouds if they are a bit tacky and the top of the radiator (you can tape it up properly which saves you removing it). Also get some wd40 onto your hoses to get them to shine up nice. Generally it's one thing at a time.
