Falken_KE30 Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 in the process of getting me diff out of my KE30 Ive taken off the U bolts, and removed the lowering blocks it had. Ive then put some blocks under the diff centre, and lowered the body so the diff has come off the leafs. Now getting the leafs out, do i remove from the chassis at the read end, or do i remove from the spring? or it don't matter? Also I'm unsure of where or how to remove the brake lines? just wanna make sure I'm doing it right Cheers Quote
cuzzo Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 Do you have a trolley jack? If so, stick the trolley jack under the diff on the diff centre. (of corse with the body it self on jack stands. preferably a solid point) jack the diff up but not high enough to lift the car off the jack stands. Unbolt the leafs from the cars and all brake gear. Un-bolt tailshaft. Lower trolley jack with diff centre still on jack and pull jack outwards towards the rear of the car. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted May 28, 2008 Author Report Posted May 28, 2008 ahhk awesome, where do you disconnect the brakes? from behind the drums, or up else where? Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted May 28, 2008 Author Report Posted May 28, 2008 ok thanks cuzzo Can lock or delete now, I'm all good lol Quote
tas_ae71 Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 don't forget the handbreak cables, un-do them towards the front where they go from 2 cable into 1. get a brake line tool, brake lines are easily rounded so there is a special 5 sided spanner designed for the job. have everything un-done before you take the leafs out becuase the diff will want to roll off of the jack. cuzzo Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 Yep good point! You need to remove the outer section of the drum usually with the correct sized bolt in two points then undo the handbrake cables by using some long noose pliers and push closed the springs so that the cable can be pushed back through. That will probably be the hardest part / most annoying. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted May 28, 2008 Author Report Posted May 28, 2008 ahhh ok, Yeah i notice on my spare diff about the Handbrake cable setup. got that sorted lol, Was just unsure on brake hoses thats all, Quote
Guy Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 undo the brake lines from where they both meet together on top of the diff, leave the diff lines on there and just pull the one off that leads to the rest of the car (and remember to kink it). This is how u do it on a borg warner diff not sure if u have a banjo tho. Quote
styler Posted May 28, 2008 Report Posted May 28, 2008 (edited) brake line spanner = flare spanner as tas ae71 said the nuts can be easy to round sometimes with normal spanners. Edited May 28, 2008 by styler Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted May 29, 2008 Author Report Posted May 29, 2008 ok, diff don't need to come out now, just the leafs and lowering blocks, I'm stumped on how the leaf comes out?? i can see at the rear it just slides off, easy enough, but the other end is weird, ive undone the 14mm nut, and the 2 12mm bolts from opposite side, now what?? WinKE55 Posted May 29, 2008 Report Posted May 29, 2008 don't forget the handbreak cables, un-do them towards the front where they go from 2 cable into 1. get a brake line tool, brake lines are easily rounded so there is a special 5 sided spanner designed for the job. have everything un-done before you take the leafs out becuase the diff will want to roll off of the jack. These are also called pipe spanners. I don't really use them, I use normal spanners. Though it can be easy to round off any nut with an open ended spanner. Have fun! Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted May 30, 2008 Author Report Posted May 30, 2008 still lost on how to remove springs. once you take shackle off the rear it should slide off, easy enough, but the other end is stumping me, nothen will move. do i hit with a hammer where the 14mm bolt went on? so it pushes the plate that the 2 12mm's where holding?
