redae71 Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 hey all i have an ae71 with ca18det..... i had the tailshaft made up for the std diff open wheeler, am going to weld it but i have heard of axles twisting and snapping, how long do you reckon it would last at around 200hp? what experiences have you had with welding these i.e. drivability vs performance gain? Redwarf Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Considering I used to snap axles with 115hp, I think it will last until the second or third time you side step the clutch. Upgrade time. Quote

Upgrade time. i have a spare so now i can side step it 4-6 times :) i thought it might happen that way...... i will not be thrashin the piss out of it til i figure out what I'm gona do about it.... how long will it last in a straight line? :( Quote
marvis Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 I don't understand why you would go through all the trouble of putting a ca18det in a ke70 only to run the stock diff.. Quote
irokin Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 Considering the S13s run either an R180 (7.2 inch) for non-turbos or an R200 in the turbos (8 inch) how the hell the standard borgwarner (6.38 inch) is supposed to survive for any length of time I'll never know. Even a T series (6.7 inch) wouldn't take it. I've even seen the R200s detonate with 350hp and some sticky tyres. Quote

irokin Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 btw have you done a full conversion without the car spending even one night in a workshop? also i hardly expect that sort of shit from admin, Yes in fact, I have. I despised all workshops until I finally found a good one...about 2 years after the car was "finished". You'll get used to it. Lower your expectations now to avoid further insult :( ...OK OK Maybe I am a bit of a shithead in the mornings Quote
DearmanKE Posted June 24, 2008 Report Posted June 24, 2008 theres a bloke in adelaide pushing 200kw at the rears with an sr20 n he stil runs the standard diff, lol he changes axles regurlaryly Quote
