Falken_KE30 Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 (edited) Surely having wider rims and increased track would make the car safer on the road. i mean doesn't a wider stance make the car more stable on the road, and the wider tires gives increased grip? i will be putting a KE30 over for RWC in few months, and from what i gather, u can't legally register it with 13x7" rims. been told no more than 2" in diameter, and 1" wider. so that would make 15x6.5 (13x5.5 stock right?) the biggest you can go legally. adam-__- Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 One more call made to Shannons just now. The kind lad confirmed what i was told yesterday: So long as the width of the wheels arent the reason for the claim, then the claim wont be rejected. They would repair the rest of the vehicle, with the exception of the "illegal" wheels (ie he said - if you were turning a corner but the wheels were too wide within the guards to allow you to turn properly and you had an accident, you wouldnt be covered). So i think I'm happy to put this to rest, having got what i beleive to be a satisfactory answer from the horse's mouth. Guess the only thing we have to worry about are cops having a bad day! Ah that's not bad news mate. I will try and remember to ask my insurance company about the same thing when adding modifications to my list and get back to you guys about the outcome. I shouldn't be different to Shannons, but we'll see. Quote
Raven Posted July 18, 2008 Report Posted July 18, 2008 Still, regency will knock it back if you went through with the wide rims on it, be careful there. In the end, they'll state whether or not they'll let you take it on the road or not  Quote
turbo_rolla Posted July 18, 2008 Author Report Posted July 18, 2008 Yeah, regency wont let it through with the rims, so i'll have stockies back on it. Happy to take the chance with getting a sticker because of "wide" rims and having to take it back through, but didnt wanna take the risk if it meant any insurance payouts were gonna be affected by it. I agree though falken - wider rims & tyres should = better grip, and make it safer - who knows how they think. But yes, 2" diamater, and 1" TOTAL increase to TRACK (as opposed to rim width, so be careful with offsets as you could have "legal" size wheels but be outside of the track. That's how it is in adelaide atleast (ie 26mm total track increase, which works out to 1/2 and inch each side.....) Like i said though, main concern was insurance and i think i've put that to bed - if i get defected then i get defected - couple of hundred bucks out of pocket, as opposed to thousands for insurance  Quote
