hey guys, I'm currently running an sr20 in my corolla its impossible to to handbrake into corners as the gear box sits quite a way back, and when in second its practically above the handbrake. any hints on what i can do to shorten the handbrake. i know its been done before. though i couldnt find any real help info on it. cheers

Hey mate. Instead of doing that, just put the gear shifter into the gearbox the opposite way so it bends forwards instead of backwards. then it shouldnt sit above the handbrake.

It is easy to shorten the handbrake,

it is good to hear that your motor is mounted close to the firewall, as alot of people don't and it looks/handles bad.

 

Cut the grip off.

 

Pull the button out.

 

hacksaw the end off.

 

push the button back in, mine just seemed to go in and stay in

 

and adjust the cable under the car (directly under the handbrake)

 

As for the grip, i couldnt get it to go back on so i don't have one, it still looks and works fine.

i think i read that you can just mount the handbrake pointing to the left slighty so it doesnt foul the gear shifter.

Or you could more the whole thing?

ended up shortening mine during the week, took about 25-30mm off with a dremel, shortened the cover its all good now.
