Hey guys and gals just got my first corolla 77 model with a 4k engine and have just been given a 77 2 door coupe which needs a bit of love. As i am very new to these types of cars (normally 6 or 8 cylinders )(should have changed earlier) My wife and I would like to ask if the motor and gearbox out of the 2 door is better than the 4k and if not how do we make the current 4k a bit more savage. We managed to pick up the ke30 for 1k it had been sitting still for 5 years and you could have knocked us down with a feather when after a cap and a half of fuel was poured in it fired (unf***ing believable) and has not stopped purring since.Any advice would be greatly appreciated

More than likely have the same engine and gearbox combo in them. Unless one is a 4 speed and the other is a 5 speed.

 

There is lots of info in the knowledge base/faq section at the top of the web page..click on that and it will tell you can get more speed if you want it ;)

hi mate , its got a 4k and is it better than a 4k .a 4k is a 4k . being in the same boat by having 6's and i have a v8 i do understand what you mean , 4k 's are no V8 power house but the best you can do is keep them simple , and maintain it to the best of your ability . keep the oil up and fresh, pionts, leads, plugs and carby tuned and you can't kill it .

oh by the way keep your eye on the thermostat and water level .

Since they donth are the same I'd choose which ever one is in better condition. (Less smokey)

Neither could i untill my next door neighbour bought it home. He is one of the most pedantic people i have ever met,it sat at his mother inlaws for 5 years untouched and not turned. The main expense was four new tyres as the original ones were flat on one side(only the bottom side). we put some fuel in and the rest is history. Best investment we have made for a while. R&C
