Red_rocket Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Hey all, i have been researching, but maybe not enough i recently got an oil catch can, i have seen on this site on how to install them on a carby but not EFI I have an EFI 5k Turbo setup, there are 2 outlets on the rocket cover one in the middle and one towards the end (firewall) the middle one isn't connected to anything and neither is the back on it just has that check valve (one way valve) the problem i had is when i connected the middle hose to the EFI on de acceleration it was sucking oil from the engine into the manifold and blowing an insane amount of smoke! i have an oil catch can but not sure where to connect everything to. the way i see it is if i connect the hoses up from the rocket cover to the catch can and then back into the manifold its just going suck the oil back through the EFI and blow smoke again! so i'm a bit confused, i have had a looked on Google and still no real help? Can anyone help, maybe with a rough diagram or something? Cheers. Gerard Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 (edited) the way i see it is if i connect the hoses up from the rocket cover to the catch can and then back into the manifold its just going suck the oil back through the EFI and blow smoke again! This is the correct way. If the oil catch can is not a cheap one, and actually works, all that you motor receives is air, the oil stays in the can. Red_rocket Posted October 14, 2008 Author Report Posted October 14, 2008 Ill have to give it a go, and see what happenes If not i have seen a filter been placed on the hose that leaves the catch can? i guess that might work? Cheers Quote
irokin Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 You shouldn't have it hooked up directly to the manifold btw. The reason its blowing tonnes of smoke is because its receiving tonnes of vacuum. If you're going to plumb it back into the intake it needs to be before the turbo (i.e. between the air filter and turbo inlet). Quote
Mybowlcut Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Hey man. I had this same problem and ended buying a catch can from super cheap. Also, take a look at my video which more or less shows how the catch can should look except the cheap hoses (I bought proper black rubber fuel hoses) and positioning (which is up to you). When I pick up the loose hose, that is the end that goes into your air filter (in your case I dunno what it would be since you're running an EFI setup). Quote
