Rolliac Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Looks like the same rocker cover as the 4e-fte which is probably a very similar engine. 74 mm Bore, 77.4 mm Stroke (1300cc) and 135hp @ 6400rpm. Why don’t people drop these in old Corollas? Quote
towe001 Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 What can i say chalk and cheese or chocolate and sh.... As far as i know the 4e-f is a fwd motor only. Which means there be no mounts on the sides of the block for rwd engine mounts. Quote
Rolliac Posted November 24, 2008 Author Report Posted November 24, 2008 Yeah but being fwd doesn’t seem to stop people using 4age’s in rwd conversions Quote
irokin Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 I'm not sure why you'd bother. There are plenty of other motors with more capacity, already RWD and make buttloads more power. The reason people can convert 4A-GEs easily is because the 4A block comes in RWD in some applications so the block has RWD mounting points even if its in a FWD. And even if you figure out mounts on a 4E then you're going to have to find a rwd bellhousing annnd AFAIK they don't exist. Sure you could make a custom bellhousing but whats the point? While you're dicking around trying to deal with machinists plenty of other people will complete some other conversions and be happily driving around. Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 And even if you figure out mounts on a 4E then you're going to have to find a rwd bellhousing annnd AFAIK they don't exist. E-series engines take C-series gearboxes in FWD format. Might they share same bolt pattern as a 4A then? Or do they have a different bellhousing on the C-box. Quote
Rolliac Posted November 25, 2008 Author Report Posted November 25, 2008 Yeah did some searching hard to find info. Sounds like T-50 needs mod’s to fit. I have had a 4A FWD bellhousing up against one and the top left bolt hole and dowel lineup fine. What I haven't had time to investigate is whether the input shaft lines up at this point. The 4A bellhousing is a little bigger but if the dowel and input shaft lined up then it's possible the rest of the holes could be welded up and redrilled off centre a little. Just thought if someone really wanted a 3k-r then a 4e-fe might be the next best thing. Quote
Budowski Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 (edited) E-series engines take C-series gearboxes in FWD format. Might they share same bolt pattern as a 4A then? Or do they have a different bellhousing on the C-box. so far in the 15 minutes of googling C150 trans comes up with a whole host of information like "c150 - Fitted to 2e-elu (and other lower spec models) EP71 Starlets. They ran from nov 1984 through to late 1990 I believe although on the lower spec EP80's I think the same box is used. c152 - Fitted to 2e-telu (Turbo S Version) EP71 starlets. Slightly different ratios and they have a slightly stronger input shaft. There are some slight casing changes. Both the c150 and c152 come non-lsd although one can be fitted. As far as I'm aware only TRD make these and they may be discontinued. c52 - Fitted to 4e-fte (GT) EP82 starlets. Much stronger than the c15x's listed above, larger diff and gearsets. Very similar to 4age c52 internally although do have a different final drive ratio and casings. The bellhousing for example is a fair bit different." at the end its says the bell housing is different but other than that ??? http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=153002 info gained from here. and that info was some what taken from club 4ag. I'm guessing at the end of the day everything is the same shafts ect. Just the bell housing is different so if you cut up an old starlet box, I'm sure a place could mate it up to a T50. Imagine all the 1500cc turbo ke20's getting around just for the cost of a bell housing and distributor mod. Would need more investigation like finding a dead starlet motor and gearbox for nothing and start cuting and measuring. Also just saw this http://www.rollaclub.com/board/?showtopic=25326, if a person can cut off the bell housing of k series gearbox to mate with a T50 then its even more inspiring.
