gday all

i have a 89 rolla hatch (new Shape) and i want it to run into the twelves i was thinkin of puting in the 4agze front cut with the 20v head, change cam shafts and gears and turbo it (also had the idea of twin superchargin it).

i don't know much about car engines but am do reserch and i keep geting told get the 20v or the agze and apperently the agze is stronger cos it has forged components if anyone knows how i could get my rolla in the twelves and have a bit of a price range that would be sweet.

my dad will be doing the conversion so theres no cost there!

thanks heaps

hotted 3sgte might be better or a ca18det/sr20det. I don't think the 4a will get you 12 without some serious bank. Depends on what your willing to spend i suppose

I imagine the turbo + supercharged setup would be quite complicated, but don't forget that when HKS did the twin-charger kit for the 4AGZE, it was making 350Hp. Surely that with the right gearing and tyres would equal an easy 12 second pass.

By the way, this is just me thinking out aloud, so don't assume I'm claiming to be any kind of expert on drag racing, because I'm not, I just would have thought 350Hp in a car weighing less than 1000kg should do the trick.

not true, i know of a twincharged 4agze in a morris minor that help up for a long time. they got it down to 13.2 with an sc12 and T2, before removing the blower (which was a restriction at that stage) and replacing it with a T28 and got it into 12s, then later on high 11s with a lighter driver

A lighter driver made a noticeable difference? How heavy was the first driver???

In regards to the twin-charger setup, while in the pits at my race meet on Sunday the 27th of March (which no-one showed up to, by the way!), a guy said that he's got an AE92 with a 4AGZE with a T04 hanging off it. He went home and grabbed the car, but then suddenly disappeared again before I could check it out. I don't think I'll get a chance to ever see it again, as when I asked what compression he was running, he said he was using standard internals. As he was using an AE111 motor, this means he should have 8.9:1 compression, with a supercharger doing 10 pound of boost, PLUS a T04 turbo, so I don't think it'll last very long...

Dale, mate, sit down here with your Uncle Dwarf and lets have a friendly non-flaming chat over a nice cup of internet.

Firstly, you require some research. Google.com is excellent, as somewhere in the world, someone has done any given engine conversion. Honestly. If you want to put a quad-cam into a Honda Zot, some bloke in Uzbechistan has already done it and put it onto the internet. All the other usuals like Toyomods, twincam.org and there's another one that I can't remember right now (it's late) are useful resources, too. They all have search functions, and Toyomods especially mercilessly flame anyone who hasn't done their homework.

Unless you're excessively clever and know some really talented people, fast = expensive. And the dollars compound the faster you want to go. A 12 second car is cubic dollars. If you're pumping out big neddies, you WILL need upgraded drivetrain, and to prevent really bad things happening at the end of your ten second pass, brakes and suspension, too.

Here's a friendly tip, don't believe everything people tell you. Go out to your car with a tape measure, ruler, calipers, micrometer, piece of string, and see for yourself if things'll fit. I'll gaurantee, if it looks like it may not fit, it wont.

Sadly not many of us in here play with these new fangled FWD cars, but we would be interested to see what you come up with.

Good Luck!

why doesnt anyone talk about the 20valves?

are they shit?

whats stronger the 20v or the agze?

I'm goin to get one of the two if i can beat 12s then i want to atleast beat vl turbos!

as my mates both have slightly worked ones, and i said when i get my new engine i will beat them but now I'm not sure.

i recon they would only run into the 15s maybe high 14s if they are lucky ill tell u what they run after wednesday when we all go down the track.

my rolla runs a 17.1 at the moment but my startoff was shit so i recon i could get about 16.8

ill tell ya all after wednesday

thenks again

Honestly, who gives a shit if your car can do 12 seconds in a straight line, bring it to the track one day and see if you can make it go around the corners... THATS where the challenge is

drag racing... *yawn*

I couldn't have put it better myself. :D

everyone knows the best way to run 12s is with NAWS

Hahaha  Love the pic!!!

Generally that sort of motor has a big f@$k-off turbo hanging off it. It'd cost BIG money to do, as you'd need custom exhaust manifold, custom intake plenum chamber for the quad throttles, and programmable ECU. Not to mention some stronger internals. About the cheapest way for you to beat these VL Turbo's would be to buy one yourself and strip every piece of interior out of it. It'd be lighter than your mates' 'slightly worked ones' so it should launch harder. A Corolla could beat them, and COULD end up doing 12/13's but the cost wouldn't be worth it, and it'd only be good for dragging.
