CUCUY Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 well, after 600,000 miles, my 3TC finally gaveway. should i rebuild and go all out in high performance, or should i swap in a rotary engine and bridgeport it? Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 or should you get a series 4/5 efi 13b turbo and use that, because it will make lots of power, and be more reliable than a bridge, and use about a third of the fuel - yes :D Quote
CUCUY Posted April 12, 2005 Author Report Posted April 12, 2005 the $$$ isn't a real issue and i thought about going with a turbo rotary too, but my car is carb and having to run wires everywhere....ugghhh :D Quote
Jason Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 (edited) or should you get a series 4/5 efi 13b turbo and use that, because it will make lots of power, and be more reliable than a bridge, and use about a third of the fuel - yes only problem it would probably be slower because of the wheel spin :D Edited April 12, 2005 by Jason Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 12, 2005 Report Posted April 12, 2005 if you want to go totally nuts on a 3t-c you can get decent power out of them dudes in puerto rico are running 7 second quarters on 3t-c with turbo and nos. christ, the thing still has pushrods!!! Quote

CUCUY Posted April 12, 2005 Author Report Posted April 12, 2005 Could always scour the planet for a 4T-GTEU Rare as rocking horse shit, but what an engine to brag about if you had one! HA.....thats like me trying to get a 3TGTE here in the states...lol Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 3tgte is miles more avail EVERYWHERE in the world than the 4tgte!! rotors= :S Quote
irokin Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 nothing wrong with rotors... Your probably just intimidated by their simplistic workings :S 600hp from 1.3 litres...yes please! Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 no, the rta considers them 2.6L, the engine still only displaces 1.3L 10A, 2x 491cc = 982cc12A, 2x 573cc = 1146cc 13B, 2x 654cc = 1308cc hence 20B, 3x 654cc = 1962cc Quote
Felix Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 a rotary is effectively a four cycle two stroke :S for every revolution of one rotor you have three combustion events. for each rev of a twin rotor it has 6 combustion events. for a 4 cylinder 4 stroke engine, you have 2 combustion events each revolution. so you need two revolutions to have four combustion events. so your 1300cc 13B rotary thinks it is a 2600cc engine as it fires twice as often as the equivalent swept volume 4 stroke engine. Quote
Felix Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 no, you should be comparing it to 2.6 liter four strokes. not 1.3L. Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 it's still a generalisation, and an incorrect one. let's see a sigma engine with a turbo make 600+hp. thought not rotaries and piston engines are like apples and oranges Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 felix is correct, when comparing them you can't just work on the static volume of the rotary. 600hp from a 2ltr 4 cyl is possible, cosworth were doing it in the 80s in the sierras..... amoungst others. also rotors are not as reliable as pistons when tuned. in fact you don't even need to tune them to make then unreliable, fact is when compared to pistons rotorys lack well behind in reliability. then theres economy..... Quote
Mr Revhead[RL] Posted April 15, 2005 Report Posted April 15, 2005 actaully thats the very reason they didnt take off.... too thirsty. and the reason GM and ford dropped them. :S that and the reliablility! Quote
