Tally Posted February 27, 2009 Report Posted February 27, 2009 Hey guys Well anyway yesterday started doing my coolant change... First thing I did was let the engine cool down, then I undid the drain tap. I was following the KE70 gregorys manual. Anyway nothing came out!!!!!!! I was like wtf!!!!! Pocked a screw driver in it and it had some gunk and shit in it... Anyway, reason for coolant change was overheating so went and got some radiator fluch, coolant, new thermostat and gasket and loctite. Anyways take off the thermostat cover and guess what............. no friggin themostat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was like WTF!!!!!!!! anyways flushed her out and chucked in the flush and clean shit.... Still in their as we speak........ But how do I unblock the drain tap... I was expecting coolant to flow out casue thats what its for aye????????? tried hose but didint do shit? Runs a hell lot better now but still have to drain and refill with coolant.... so its gonna be harder without the drian tap working any help pleaseeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 (edited) I'm sure those taps are just for show! I tried to use mine and it broke  I took the bottom hose off and drain it that way. Edit: I also had the rad out of the car so I could make sure I got everything out. philbey Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Just pull the tap right out and give it a cleanout. Quote
SLO-030 Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 Drains are not for show  I used mine yesterday. had the same problem with overheating. reason for it was that i had left the seal up in the cooling system from when i had the leaking head and 2weeks later it had started sealing up my radiator cores :y: Quote
drc_ke20 Posted February 28, 2009 Report Posted February 28, 2009 remove the whole radiator and give it to your local radiator specialist roughly about 50 bucks for a full service.they will remove the top tank of your radiator and clean it properly,i think your better off this way instead of just flushing it??? Quote
Tally Posted March 1, 2009 Author Report Posted March 1, 2009 Nah its brand new. But I actually did take it out yesterday and reverse flush it just to be on the safe side.... Car runs heaps great now, drain tap still blocked but its all good... I have to thrash the thing to keep it warm lol... Quote
SLO-030 Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 Fill the cooling system with water. Replace radiator cap. Almost fully remove the brass plug in the drain tap (enought for water to flow thru the hole in the bottom) Start engine and let warm up. Keep engine running and fingers crossed that the pressure in the cooling system is enough to blow the shit out of the tap. Just an idea Quote
SLO-030 Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 how warm did you get it? maybe get it hot by taking it for a drive. then open the tap (and watch out). Hopefully blow the crap out much like it blows the radiator cap off if you open it when its hot. Quote
Tally Posted March 1, 2009 Author Report Posted March 1, 2009 I thrashed the shit out of it on friday fringe opening night... and all I had in it was water and radiator flush. Then when I drained it a fair amount of crap came out but tap was still blocked.... Its alright for now man, runs sweet... Quote
DearmanKE Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 i didint know they had drain taps lol i have a thermostat u can have its in my kitchen tday my dad was like wtf is this lol Quote
camerondownunder88 Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 I use the drain tap works awesome mine. Shove wire up it or something or remove it from the block to clean it out.
