Clancy Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 Okay so i am very familiar with the search button but i can only find it being used for RWD. I might be getting a AE82 sohc seca for free and i wann do an engine conv, i know everyone does 4age/t/ze but i wanna be a little different. Has anyone heard of someone doing this? How similar are things like, CV's hubs etc??? Thanks in advance Clancy Quote
dfunkt Posted March 4, 2009 Report Posted March 4, 2009 there's 3 ways to get a CA18 into an AE82. 1. just put the engine and box in and make custom everything to make it fit in the rolla and bolt up to everything. 2. take a front cut from a pulsar running a CA18 and weld it to a rolla backend. 3. put the CA18 in the hatch area and dump it at the local tip or wreckers! Hiro Protagonist Posted March 5, 2009 Report Posted March 5, 2009 thanks, your so helpful...is it possible, cv etc? if your just going to write shit in the post then don't bother thanks There's a difference between possible and worthwhile. For the amount of custom work needed (engine mounts, gearbox which will most likely facilitate different CVs, wiring, computer, intake/exhaust, basically anything to do with the engine bay) you might as well pick a better engine, or keep it in the Toyota stable to minimise compatability issues. Whilst a CA18 would be different, you'd be getting no better results than a 4AGE or 3SGTE, both of which can provide you with an excellent amount of information on the conversion so you won't run into too many troubles. Golden rule of engine conversions is "Don't put an unusual engine in a car just because you have one lying around, unless you are made of time and money". If you could somehow get a FWD gearbox/bellhousing to suit, you could probably fit a V8 in there (like a 1UZ), doesn't mean you should. Quote

For the same price as a 3S conversion you can get a 4A that's faster, but put the same amount of work into each engine and the 3S will leave it for dead. Quote

machg Posted March 6, 2009 Report Posted March 6, 2009 Glad you saw sense, a 7agte (7afe bottom end, 4age top end and turbo) will go as well as a ca18det anyway + waaaaaaaaay less hassles Quote
