April 25, 200521 yr comment_40803 Wagon O' Death is for the time being renamed bogmobile The suspension has now been fixed, so the car does not want to run all over road anymore. My day went a little like this. * Eyeball rust spot * Get out angle grinder *NNNNNNNnnnnyeeeeeeahNNNNNNNnnnnyeeeeeeagnNNNNNNNnnnnyeeeeeeeeeeeeeah (<- Angle grinder sfx) * Holy Crap! A big gaping hole where there used to be stuff! Repeat two or three times The area where the hatch closes seem to consist of about 80% bog.. I spend most of the day grinding away the bog with a dremel, so that I could get at the rust underneath. And I cut out some of the dodgier looking bits with my dremel. I love my Dremel. Spent too much time trying to figure out how to hook up the bendy bit for the dremel. I hate to see how much more bog there is the car. It's and interesting experience to see a panel go from paint to bog to rust to metal (or nothing, as the case maybe) under an angle grinder. It's like watching those timelapse movies of erosion on Discovery Channel. Edited April 25, 200521 yr by wyldephyre Report
April 25, 200521 yr Author comment_40817 i like wagon o death and i hope it makes a return :P ACtually, it has a tendency to suck in exhaust from the back hatch, especially now that the seals are gone... so that name might stick around for a bit longer. Report
April 25, 200521 yr comment_40825 yeah at one point i was driving around in fook's car (when it was mine) with no boot seal. the car stunk of fumes and i was sick for about a week :P Report

April 26, 200521 yr comment_40966 I love my Dremel. Did you know that Dremel doesn't do good things to drive shafts??? I found out and it only cost me $800 to do so (about 18 months back). Report

April 26, 200521 yr comment_40996 Well, I decided to attempt to change the CV joints on my Galant myself, with the assistance of a mate and his dad. We finally got the old CV out on one side, and whilst trying to put the new bits together, we couldn't get a circlip to fit in the driveshaft the way it was meant to. So the father, who knows tonnes about cars (just not anything that's not Holden), suggested he grab his Dremel and make the slot for the circlip slightly bigger. He did so, we put it all back together, leaving the other side's CV for another day, and away I went. Until 50km later when the driveshaft snapped at the point where we'd machined it. It cost me $800 for the new shaft (plus labour). Recently when I changed the CV on the other side (which I was going to do originally, but the second CV I bought had to be used on the new driveshaft), I bought a complete assembly from CBC Bearings. This included the inner & outer CV's as well as the driveshaft in-between. It cost me $160!!! And that was for the side with the longer driveshaft!!! I got ripped off BIG TIME previously!!! (It must have been a Mitsubishi-genuine driveshaft) Report
April 26, 200521 yr comment_41001 yeah i've been trying to think what use a dremel would be to a driveshaft too :/ Report
