Jason Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 This has been in the back of my mind for some time now. With a stock GZE the S/C sucks air through the throttle. At deceleration , the air-bypass valve opens to let air pass the S/C. Right? Would there be any advantage of having a blow through setup? Having the throttle on the intake manifold and the S/C blowing into it? Quote
Super Jamie Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 that's a really good question. you definately could do it, and from what i can find you're going to have slightly better throttle response from it you might have to find some way to stop the intake from over-pressurising though. back off at 7500rpm and there's going to be boost against closed throttle plates. however the revs will drop and so will the boost. perhaps you could use a blow off valve? if you're using stock ecu (or a good aftermarket one), it will cut the blower clutch so it stops boosting then too you'll also need some way to monitor air for the ecu, blow thru the AFM as well, or are they MAP? dunno. look at a factory blowthru efi supercharger setup Quote
Jason Posted May 1, 2005 Author Report Posted May 1, 2005 Its MAP, but the pressure sensor will have to connected to the manifold. I wonder if the stock BOV will do the job? Quote
Super Jamie Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 are you running an aftermarket computer or not? the stock ecu will cut the blower clutch when you back off. that will solve your problem. a blow off valve with a stock ecu will never sneeze if you're running another ecu which doesn't have that feature, you'll need to do something about it Quote
Jason Posted May 1, 2005 Author Report Posted May 1, 2005 (edited) for now, i will only be running stock, but if i can get it to dump at the same time as the charger. Although reading through some of the sheets on the stock ECU it shuts it off after a period of time once you have let go of the gas. Looks like a job for a PIC :D or maybe *Goes and has a look at megasquirt* woops forgot it was only EFI controller Edited May 1, 2005 by Jason Quote
Super Jamie Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 are we talking like, a few minutes after you let off, or a few milliseconds? if it can control the clutch fast enough to switch suckthru, it should be fast enough to switch blowthru Quote
Jason Posted May 1, 2005 Author Report Posted May 1, 2005 (edited) IIRC every body says 5 secs, although I'm not sure if thats a fact or people just guessing *Now locking at a vid some one got of there boost gauge while driving its seem prety instant. Edited May 1, 2005 by Jason Quote
Super Jamie Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 hmm. i'll put it this way, i don't think there's going to be a massive difference. i've never personally driven a gze, but they don't seem to be lacking in throttle response set it up however's easiest. if you have a problem with the pressure banking up or blowing the throttle plates back open, fit a nice quiet plumb-back bosch blow off valve and i reckon she'll be right ideally, design a modular intake setup so it's easy to change the position of the throttle body, and try both :D if you can be bothered making the brackets and the cable for the tps long enough, it would be an interesting comparison Quote
Felix Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 i have heard of guys doing modern supercharger conversions and using 2 throttle bodies coupled to work synchronously..... one before the supercharger and one after. supposedly eliminates the need for a blow off valve. Quote
blown 5k Posted May 1, 2005 Report Posted May 1, 2005 Mine has two in sync,a blow off valve on a s/c sounds really horrible Quote
ancullen Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 blown_5k, do you mean that a BOV on an S/C sounds really horrible as in the noise it makes or the idea of one sounds horrible? Quote
blown 5k Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 They sound horrible,i had one on mine for a while it must have something to do with the way the rotors in the supercharger chops up the air. Quote
Jason Posted May 4, 2005 Author Report Posted May 4, 2005 Do you have a pic of your setup? So do you use the stock air bypass/BOV in a feedback setup? Quote
