bmews Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Does anyone know where to get K engine custom pulleys? I am retro fitting A/C to a 3K engine. A 4K pulley is significantly larger than the 3K so it would be over driving, thats the last thing I need. Quote
Super Jamie Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 i thought that K motors with aircon have a double crank pulley, one wheel drives water pump and alternator (like normal) and the front drives the aircon compressor i've heard adapting a 4A engine pulley to a K motor isn't hard? any engineering place with a lathe would be able to machine you up a custom pulley, but the block of metal alone would be worth a hundred bucks, never mind the labour, eek! Teddy Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Yup they have a double pully... all of the crank wheels have 2 holes in them with thread. Thats where the aircon pully bolts onto. :D Quote
Felix Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 i have a few double v belt crank pulleys from late 4k's laying around if you are near brisbane. not sure on diameter compared to the 3k pulleys, but the second (aircon?) pulley was smaller than the alternator/waterpump drive pulley from memory. the holes with thread are for the factory removal SST's. the double row pulleys i have are one piece and also have threaded holes in them to. bmews Posted May 2, 2005 Author Report Posted May 2, 2005 Thanks folks, yes I do know that the 4K double pulley exists but the fan/alt pulley is significnatly larger than a standard 3K. Puzzled, what to do. Quote
Super Jamie Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 (edited) the single row stock pulleys i have are all about 118mm on both 3k and 4k. i think you could interchange them without any problems what do you rev the engine to? i take mine to 8 grand regularly (actually, almost every time i drive the thing lol) and my water pump is fine, though it is a new one, perhaps an old pump might give way? you could also hunt around the wreckers for a larger pulley with the right offset, or a deeper one with the right belt groove and make a spacer. don't space the engine fan into the radiator :D i'm running a crappy old denso alternator which keeps up charge no problems. if you change to the later model bosch alternator (get top and bottom bracket, wire in, done) you can underdrive it with a sigma alternator pulley. apparently they're a bit more sensitive to big revs Edited May 2, 2005 by Super Jamie Quote
bmews Posted May 2, 2005 Author Report Posted May 2, 2005 Thankyou Mr SuperJ. The 4K pulleys I saw were larger. Hmmmm better remeasure all this. I'm not reving this poor little guy much at all. It's in factory overrated condition owned by a little old lady who had to give it away and it only has 63000km. I am simply tarting it up for my daughter who doesn't care to rev the stuffing out of it or go anywhere too quickly. The only thing she wants is A/C, so that gave me a little engineering challenge and with the collective expertise here I'm sure I can transplant some kit out of a KE55/70 into this KE30. Already got all the engine bay mechanicals off a KE70 just waiting on the interior from a 55. thanks again, Barry Quote
Super Jamie Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 just swap the pulleys over then, it'll be fine Quote
demuire Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 Cool... We want aircond in Haikal's car too :D Quote
Jason Posted May 2, 2005 Report Posted May 2, 2005 (edited) *Jason points out that he has a V belt A/C compressor thats not needed* :D Edited May 2, 2005 by Jason Quote
