13BT_KE20 Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 4 ltrs is usually considered ample to paint a whole car, use that as a reference Quote

toyota_ae71 Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 just go and buy a 4litre can of paint and then you have spare for when you decide you need bigger wheels and more flaireing is needed. Quote

JRADSTRX Posted April 12, 2009 Author Report Posted April 12, 2009 my next question.. how much approx will all the stuff cost me if i buy from paint supplies in adelaide? eg. paint, thinners, etc Quote
kangaroosa Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 Assuming your using Acrylic 4ltrs Thinners ~$15-20 2ltrs Paint $40/L for a semi decent brand. Can get cheaper. Prepsol $10 Wet and Dry Paper + Cutters + Polish + Masking Tape = $50 Tops So roughly $150 Quote
JRADSTRX Posted April 12, 2009 Author Report Posted April 12, 2009 cheers mate.. i just called paint supplies and he said automotive paint is like 80bucks a litre.. is what ur sayin, like house paint or somethin?? and would the like light blue colour that ke70 came in b an acrylic?? cheers Quote
corolla_nut Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 It would almost definitely be acrylic. Wouldn't be 2pac if it's the original colour. Just to give you a guide, I only used a litre to paint the whole back panel, boot lid and 1/2 way down the rear quarters on each side on my ke55, and that was with a few mistake coats (rubbed them back and painted them again) so 2 litres will be ample. kangaroosa Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 cheers mate.. i just called paint supplies and he said automotive paint is like 80bucks a litre.. is what ur sayin, like house paint or somethin?? and would the like light blue colour that ke70 came in b an acrylic?? cheers Find a new paint supplier if thats the price for Automotive Acrylic. Its generally $50/L or ~$160-180 for 4L.... given a certain type of paint. The price i gave you is what I payed for Automotive Acrylic paint at full retail. Its only gone up about $10 since my last respray a few years back. Acrylic paint, like 2-pac can be mixed into basically any colour you desire. Quote

kangaroosa Posted April 13, 2009 Report Posted April 13, 2009 (edited) thankz.. i called "Paint Supplies" at Hendon and thats the price he gave me.. ill go round to autobarn and stuff like that and ask.. does solver do automotive paint?? cheers I'm from Melbourne, so i can't give you a business to go to. Avoid shopping at Autobarn, Repco, Bursons etc.....they will charge you like a wounded bull and don't provide the colour matching service that you need. Search on yellowpages.com.au for "Automotive Paint" in your area/region. I gave a quick search for you and found Protec in Gillman. Maybe the following business would be more suitable. S.A. Color Pty Ltd For All Your Crash Repair, Paint, Equipment, Tool And Supply Needs 10 Jordon Rd Melrose Park SA 5039 ph: (08) 8277 6555 Go to a specialst Automotive Paint shop and they will match the colour paint that you desire.
