DX_COROLLA Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 Hey everyone I have a 1981 Dx Corolla with a 4age 20V silver top in it. its got extractors, exhuast and ram tube intake. sitting on shortened and compressed springs on 13" moggies. want more speed and to stay N/A. I'm looking to make it faster by striping soem weight out of it, I want to keep the interior and sound deadening in the passanger area, but besides that I want to cut and strip everything un-nessesory or re-place with lighter parts to make it faster. Cheers Quote
TE278U Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 Why not turbo it and keep all the normal bits in it? i think you'd spend more money replacing bits with lighter ones for not much return as you would a turbo setup. Quote
trav_555 Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 Go back to starters, get biggest cams you can use while still retaining vvt, or get rid of vvt and go massive cams, high compression, bigger injectors, aftermarket ecu etc etc And with lightening, it will get you a little bit faster, but wont be MASSIVE power increase Travis Quote
Redwarf Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 , I want to keep the interior and sound deadening in the passanger area, but besides that I want to cut and strip everything un-nessesory or re-place with lighter parts to make it faster. Cheers In that case you're wasting your time. 12 kg of body deadener and probably 40 kg of interior are going begging. Unless you start looking at lexan windows, hole sawing/ cutting, fibreglass guards, (most of which are not legal mods.....) you're going to pull bugger all out of it. Quote
DX_COROLLA Posted May 10, 2009 Author Report Posted May 10, 2009 This is just a run around car, i also have a Nissan Laurel Being tuned right now (should make around 300rwkw) that is why i want to stay non-turbo and do as few mods to the engine that will end up using more gas as this is ment to be my economical run around car. I understand I will not be able to pull much weight out of it but more the better. re-moving such things as powersteering and aircon, along with the interior blowers (except windscreen) and keeping your engine, gearbox and under car free of dirt all make little contributations and all are free and are better than nothing. So if anyone knows anything else that can be removed without effecting is Road legal ability, please give me some ideas. cheers Quote
TRD ke70 Posted May 10, 2009 Report Posted May 10, 2009 Being a DX they are already pretty lite!!!, there's no intrusion bars in the doors so forget that, you can hole saw the doors, but be careful where you do. behind/ and under the back seat there is sound deadening that can be removed. Also with a small hole saw you can do the bonnet and boot frames, be careful as well. Don't remove any metal from places that you can't unbolt, because you'll weaken the body shell and you don't have a rollcage to make up for it. You can remove the plastic shields under the front guards if you want to get really keen. Because it's a kiwi car, the regulations are different for fiber glass panels, check with MOT, i think you can replace the panels from memory. Quote
LukeAE71 Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 I have no suggestions but would like to see more pics this thing looks awesome. :) Quote

coln72 Posted May 11, 2009 Report Posted May 11, 2009 Aluminium bumper brackets, remove guts from headlights, aluminium bolts, remove most of the padding from the rear seat, rewire the whole car only connecting what you really need, remove window winder mechanisms from all doors except the drivers..........
