Just wondering if a silvertop head would bolt up to the 100KW 4A-GE. Might have a dodgey head on my 4age so I'm keen to replace it and thought that a silvertop might look better. :)

the dome on the pistons might get pretty close to the valves. To find out if its doable you would need to have the valves full open on the 20v head, place it on the block without a gasket and then turn over my hand to see if there is contact

HHmmm i just finished this conversion :y: but it seems better to replace the whole thing again with a silvertop head and a 7a-fe block to create the 7AGE just thinking if the red top head fits on the 7afe and the silvertop fits on the 7afe wouldnt that make them the same?

Ah f@ck it I'm sticking to the 100KW head ive researched and they seem cheaper and easier to mod / replace / repair / sorce parts for and i just got my hands on one from Travis he made it sparkley for me.

Ok mods this was a worthless thread sorry for any inconvenience :y:

not worthless, someone in the future may wonder if this is possible, do a search and find out whats involved instead of asking again.

Ok I'm getting the silvertop engine should I just put the whole thing in there much around with the cooling and blah blah blah, or try the head thing?

I heard that one of the mounts need adjusting.

This whole thread does not make much sense at all.

Think, slow down and type what it is you actually want to know.

When we know what you want, maybe we will be able to help.

Such details as what kind of car you are putting it in, etc will help to create some better answers for you :P

the guys just refreshed a 4age smallport and put it into he ae9x sedan, now it seems the head is dodgy(his words) and he was wondering if the 20 st head would bolt on to a smallport block.

yes it will bolt on fine(albeit smallport has an external oil drain in the head which the 20v st doesnt or vice versa), there is the possibility of the pistons hitting a valve in the head, if you compare the 16v/20v piston you can see they are both fly cut differently, so there must be a reason why toyota redesigned the 20v pistons rather than reusing the 16v pistons

Sorry for the miss understanding Luke, as MYSTIK said its a AE92 sedan that had a 4A-FC in it converted it to the 100KW 4AGE started it and it sounded funny so I took it for a drive and found out the gearbox is stuffed and the head has a knocking noise. I got told that its my shims the head is fine I just can't be stuffed mucking around with lifters and springs. I just wanted to know if the 20v st head would fit on the 100kw block or should I just put the whole engine in it.

as a wise man once said "a 20v is worth the effort over a 16v" but I'm pretty sure he was referring to swapping the 16v for a 20v in an sx/gti

930LLO didnt you just freshen up the 4age you put in, if so i personally would stick with that engine as you done 99% of the work already.

gearbox isnt really hard to do, and now you have the choice of gearboxes

C52 - stock/early 20v st

C56 - from both 20st/bt

C160 - 20v bt only in the BZ-R(someone correct me here if I'm wrong)

Ok so heres a response to the post.

I have a 20 Valve Silvertop that has let a piston go n smashed a hole in the front of the engine. Is the any suggestions to wheather I can use a 100kw block but with the internals of a 20 Valve ie. Crank, Pistons, Conrods etc?? Or even get the bottom end of a 100kw and just swap the pistons around to reduce the chance of bending valves??

Any help would b greatly appreciated.
