Calam05 Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 I'm having a bit of trouble with my ke55. Sometimes during turns my wheel locks up and can't turn anymore. I can release the wheel a bit then turn without problem or just pull real hard and hear a big knock. It's like it gets stuck on one point during a turn because once I yank it past that point it turns fine again. The steering has always felt pretty heavy, but now its playing up. I havnt driven it much lately and havnt had time to jack it and check it out. from a quick read up and amatuer opinion i think it could be pitman arm. what do you guys rekon, and how would be the best way to check/test. corollaart Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 (edited) My two cents worth don't DRIVE IT ANY WHERE .more than likely the steering box shagged . Jack it up turn it from lock to lock try see where its binding. :P check oil in the steering box, just take top cover off have a look. No oil rooted ,get another one. rob Edited July 21, 2009 by corollaart Quote
greenmac80 Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 i had this problem after i fitted an aftermarket steering wheel. a pin on the column was getting stuck on a groove on the bosskit. maybe that? or does it sound like its coming from in the bay? Quote
Calam05 Posted July 21, 2009 Author Report Posted July 21, 2009 definantly a bay sound. ive got tomorrow morning off, ill have a look to see if i can spot anything obvious and report bak. Quote
Calam05 Posted July 22, 2009 Author Report Posted July 22, 2009 just had a quick look. my steering box was dirty as. if i took it apart and cleaned all the crap out of it would it make it handle lighter? Quote
Calam05 Posted July 22, 2009 Author Report Posted July 22, 2009 is this enough oil in the box?? Quote
JiP Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 Hey if you need another box I have one in a car I'm wrecking plus Curly has one is Lolla. The Lolla one was good, I never had issues with her :P Quote
greenmac80 Posted July 22, 2009 Report Posted July 22, 2009 pretty sure a steering box needs to be 'full' of oil? or very close to full. Quote
Calam05 Posted July 22, 2009 Author Report Posted July 22, 2009 so the diagnosis is steering box is stuffed?? Quote
